baby constipation

my 3 week old baby gets really constipated to where he cries and turns red in the face when trying to poop. he'll go a whole day like that very fussy and uncomfertable. I've given him milocan drops for gas and those don't help with the constipation. any ideas of how to help my little guy?

infant suppositories. Low iron formula

Here's what my dr. suggested, we had the same problem with Noah at that age:

1 tsp Karo Syrup (dark) mixed in with 4 oz of formula at feeding time
Rectal stimalation with a lubricated q-tip, or thermometer
We also tried 1 tsp of prunce juice mixed with 2 oz of water and that worked too.

We ended up having to switch his formula though, that's what was causing his problems. Is your baby formula fed? That might be something to ask your dr. about. Noah's on Soy forumula now and having no problems.

yeah karo syrup worked for me for a while but i think im going to have to switch formulas he still doesnt go normally

I forgot about the karo syrup-good thinking Mom, I didn't want to mention the thermometer thing. Try the karo syrup one.

yeah the formula will do it ( usually soy or generic) push the fluids
