Water breaking?

posted 30th Aug
So i just got out of the shower and noticed i was leaking a little. But my sister says that when your water breaks its always a big gush. But i have heard that it can also just leak out a little here and there. I have been having stronger contractions since my husband and i had sex this morning and i really am not sure if it was my water that was starting to leak out or not...getting kinda nervous

neat trick one of the moms up here suggested once, use a panty liner and if you fill that then it's your water. if not it's just pee.

Your sister is wrong. It isn't always a big gush It can trickle or be a gush.
It will be clear and odorless.
If you keep feeling leaking I'd call the Dr. they can do a swab test

Aw, man. I don't want to leak pee...But I guess its inevitable. I'm already peeing my pants every time I sneeze, cough and/or laugh.

OP, I've heard of it happening both ways. In what I've read, it seems if you're lying down you feel a gush, but in basically any other position its just a trickle because the baby is basically acting as a plug.

I hate it! I've actually started wearing panty liners because it never happens at home - only when I'm at work. Go figure.

When I was 32 weeks I thought my water broke, I was having mild BH contractions too. We went to the hostpital I delivered at, and they hooked me up to a fetal monitor to make sure the baby's heartbeat was fine and that I wasn't having contractions. They did the swab test which took like 10 minutes, but I was there for about an hour. Turns out it was a false alrarm. It was embarrassing, my husband came home from work early and my in-laws met us as the hospital. But at least I knew he was safe.
If you're not sure you can always go to the hospital. If your water did break you don't wanna go without too much fluid for long or the baby could get an infection. And if it's nothing, at least you'll be pre-registered at the hospital so you won't have to do it when you do go into labor.
Good luck!

You can try this little trick, lay down on your back for a few minutes, if its your water when you stand up you will feel more come out. When your standing up the babys head acts like a stopper and plugs the hole up. So try laying down and if its your water you will feel more when you stand up. You can also put on a pad and wait an hour if its your water then you will wet it. Good luck

my 2nd one my water was just leaking and it was like my panties got really damp..(I wasnt at home) and then with my last one it was a big gush (and I was standing) but if you fill a panty liner then I would call L&D and go in and have it checked !!

Nope, It does/can happen both ways but I was most definitely not laying down and it gushed, I'd say go ask the Waitress at the restaurant mine broke in, but I can't bring myself to ever go back. The thick cushioned seat was soaked and so was the carpet all around it, and a nice big trail out the door.

That has to be one of the best stories I have ever read. Not meaning any offense, but I've been having a really crappy day and my back killing me and BH contractions (assuming it's BH cause while painful they are not consistant), and worrying what if my water breaks and all that. Glad I came accross this thread. Really made me laugh.
