Anyone who has had or has Gestational Diabetes. Please help

posted 30th Aug
Okay so I have a question. I just found out yesterday that I have GD. And I am wondering of all the women on here who have had GD and had there babies, did they take the babies early or let you go into labor naturally? And how many were c-sections and how many were vaginal?

My step-daughters mother had gd when she was preggers... The week after the docs diagnosed it, they extended the due date by 10 days and she had to have a c-section. The c-section was only because my Princesa was 12lbs when she was born (a side effect of the gd)

They extended the due date? You mean they made her go longer?

thats pretty rare. normally they deliver a week or so early due to size.... but every doctor is different

im not sure if it was an extension or miscalculation, but it was moved... at any rate, Princesa was fine, 11.8 lbs, 21 in long... they just kept her in the nursury for 2 days to monitor and make sure she didnt contract the gd from her mom... 4mos now and healthy as can be!

I was borderline gd and had my son 3 days before his due date naturally and not induced for that reason. They started to induce when they thought my water was leaking but stopped when they noticed it was bulging and couldn't be leaking - I had him the next night. He was 8lbs 3 oz.

MY friend who was due 2 weeks after I was had gd.. She went into labor 2 weeks early and ended up needing a section, but i dont think it was gd related. normally i think they will do a us around 37 or 38 weeks to check the size.. if it looks like a big baby, they may induce

Thank you all for your input. I just found out yesterday and I only found out over the phone by a nurse. They haven't given me any information, she just said to stay away from sugar. Until I get my meeting with the diabetic educator and the dietician. In my head this whole pregnancy I have had the feeling that I am going to have this baby early and it be a c-section. So I don't know!

Extra advice on how to eat if you want it. Make sure that most carbs you eat (which you should keep around 35g) are higher in fibre than they are in sugar, Stay away from as many refined sweets as possible and if you do add sugar to something and don't want to use the artificial ones then try to stick to honey or raw sugar. Snack often but don't eat as much in one sitting. Look at how much protein you are getting and make sure it's acutally enough to sustain your appetite throughout the day. The biggest things that changed my sugar levels were changing my excercising to after dinner cuz my sugar was high in the morning, and eating Fibre 1 for breakfast cuz it stayed high after I ate. And if you feel the need to snack on something sweet then make sure it's also really high in fat (chocolate, cheesecake, etc) cuz that slows down the uptake of sugar in your body. Good luck!

Thank you. I have been ona diabetic diet before, because I was borderline diabetic, so Im really familiar with the eating part of it. As far as the excersise goes I really can't....I know it sounds bad but if I walk for any long period of time I feel like I'm going to pass out PLUS I have 'Pubic Dysplasia' and the next day after doing any amount of walking I am in SO much pain, even walking around wal-mart or the grocery store kills me the next day, especially at night too. So I can't really excersise, and it sucks. But I can't wait to talk to the diabetic educator and the dietician which is going to hopefully be next week.
Thank you!

I had GD and just had my baby on Tuesday. Due to the GD the Dr didn't want me to go over 40 weeks so I was set to be induced on Wednesday but I ended up going naturally into labor with her..so I was happy about that. I was hoping to have a vaginal delivery, but my little girl was being sluggish and there was meconium in the fluid so they ended up having to do an emergency c-section. None of it was due to the GD though which I was able to keep under control by diet alone. In fact my little girl was only 6 lbs 4 oz so she is just a tiny one- and her glucose levels were fine at birth.

Good luck!!!

So were you 40 weeks whenyou had her? Or how far along where you? I am hoping everything will be fine, I just need to really watch what I eat, which isnt hard. And that is awesome that you went into labor naturaully. Sucks that it ended in c-section, but whatever helps the baby come out happy and healthy is fine by me!
