baby constipation.. HELP!!

my son is now 10 days old. And he has very badconstipation He hasnt took a poop since 4 a.m yesterday. I'm really worried so i called his doctor and he wasnt in they said to call back at 2 p.m. I dont know what to do i know he wants to take a poop i can see it in his face like he be trying to push, but it just wont come out. So he'll start crying like if he's going to die. Does anyone know anything that will help him.  

my mom told me to put a couple of drops of carol syrup in Haley's bottle when she was constipated.. i don't know if it worked or it was just coincidence that she po0oed 4 hours later..

The Karo Syrup method actually works... my mom used to use it with my god-sister when we were younger and it worked like a charm!

I dont know about this, but I read a thread earlier this week! One of the mommies was saying that taking their temperature somehow makes them use it, but be prepared bc they go alot! And anther mommie said a qtip with vaseline I think.. I'm going to look for the thread. Good luck with that mama.

I read that online too when my son was constipated, I tried the qtip with vaseline but I can't remember if it worked.

ive never tried this - but some people say to use either a q-tip or a rectal thermometer and just kinda put it barely in his bum and wiggle it around the rim a bit and that will usually make him go. im not sure how well it works since i haevnt done it.

i took my son to his 2week apt yeterday and my mom wanted me to ask the dr if it was okay to give him some pedialyte because he might be a little dehydrated and the dr said it was okay but to dilute it with water or formula or breastmilk but it will probably give my baby diarhea and if we thougth he was that bad dehydrated to need it then we should just take him to see him again. so maybe you can put a tiny bit of pedialyte in his milk to hlep him go - but def ask your dr or an on call dr or someone if thats okay first.

last night someone else posted about having a constipated baby and another BG mom said that he might not actually be constipated - he may be dehydrated because that is the same kind of symptom. so you may need to be feeding him more or soemthign like that.
my baby didnt poop for over 36 hours when he got dehydrated the day after i brought him home from the hospital because i had completely stopped producing colustrum but my milk hadnt come in yet. then we gave him formula and he started to go to the bathroom normally again.

i would like to say - be prepared in case when he does start to poop again - if he poops a lot to make up for not pooping or soemthing like that.. he may get diaper rash. my baby got it pretty badly. but its finally clearing up now.

my daughter was like that the qtip and thermometer all work as well as the karo syrup i have done them all if you give her karo syrup it may not work as fast as the other one but it will work and only him give a teaspoon in his bottle

we went through that too.. just let your babies body adjust.
it will come.

you need to be concerned only after you have given it a little more time.. then you call the doctor and ask what is SAFE to do..

Oh and.. watch for a lot of farting! That will be a good sign poo it on its way........but even then it might take awhile.

My baby went a few days w/o pooping in the beginning. Shes fine and alive.. it just took her awhile.

I use the thermometer method when my baby is constipated. It makes the muscel in the rectum contract and help push the pooh out. I have never used the q-tip with vasaline but I think it would have the same effect as the thermomter. My doctor allows me to use just a little bit of apple juice with my kids. I have always heard not to use the karo syrup but talk to your doctor before you do either one of those. I have heard that they sell saline sapositories (sp) and that they help with consitpation.
