Dio for a boy. Lizzy for a girl.

What do you think? My fiance thought of them, they're both rock related.

Ronnie James Dio. A heavy metal singer from the 80's.
Thin Lizzy. Irish(I'm Irish too) hard rock band from the 70's.

Both those names came from big influences to him. Also, Dio means "God" in Italian :]

Immediately when I saw your topic I was like "Dio?  Like the band?"  Honestly, I don't like it as a first name (I'm a HUGE metal fan, don't get me wrong), but I dunno...ya know in Office Space there's a guy named Michael Bolton and everybody starts singing his songs to him and crap to him?  I feel like he'd get that a lot - "Holy Diver" is DEFINITELY playing in my head right now.  I dunno though, I guess by the time he's old enough for that to actually happen kids his age wouldn't really know too much Dio.  I do love the name Lizzy for a girl, though.  

ETA: I meant to say "singing his songs and crap to him"...not have "to him"s - there's one too many, haha

It's your baby, so name him/her whatever you like.

Personally I'm not a fan, I don't like when people give their kids really out there names, to be unique, it seems they're not thinking of the baby for when it grows up. You know? Like what if he doesn't like the name Dio. You could always give them a longer name and shorten it as a nickname like Elizabeth,

My fiance' was reading over my shoulder when I opened this, [ he's a huge Dio fan ] and he's like " THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME!" So, you have a definite go for it from him  

not my taste. I'm all for naming your kids after your rock idols but, I don't think Dio is a name someone can live with. it just sounds dumb for lack of a better word.
Lizzy isn't bad but, it sounds like a nn more than a first name.


If my daughter had been a boy, I wanted to name him Declan James

Declan is Elvis Costello's real first name
James is Robert Smith of The Cure's middle name.

Hubby thought it was too"british"   good thing we had a girl  

Why not James Dio as the middle name??? Gives him the option of having a normal name or going by his unusuall middle name.
