Question....

posted 30th Aug
When I had to go to the hospital for my kidney problems, they asked me about a pediatrician, and I said I didn't have one yet for the baby.

After she is born I want to make sure she has insurance, a good doctor and that she is well taken care of, but I kindof need some advice about how to go about it. How much does it usually cost? (I hardly have any money right now.) Is there any way that I can find relatively cheap insurance for her? (And her still be taken care of well.)

Apply for medicaide. Since your pregnant you will more then likely get it and it covers the baby until he or she is 19 I think? I know thats how long I'm covered atleast.

in NY they have this thing called child health plus...its not medicaid but its for families that dont qualify and it makes it so even if they wont cover you they cover the baby. I would call social services in your satte and ask about your options...you might qualify for medicaid.

well kinda until you get on your feet and make money then they give the boot..haha, but yea she probably will qualify and if not theres usually another program. The governmenet sucks but one thing its good at is trying to make medical available for babies.

Do you not have insurance for yourself as well? We have insurance through DHs work, so as far as self insurance~ I am clueless. I know anthem blue cross blue sheild (which is what we have) brags on having low cost self insurance~ you can always look into it~ some sites for you:

I would apply for medicaid for her now b/c it will take about 4 weeks for them to approve but you will have it for the first year of your babies life and after that if you don't qualify for medicaid you can get Florida Healthy Kids and they charge you $15-20 a month depending on your income. You can apply online at myfloridaaccess.com, hope this helps!

My pregnancy and birth will be covered. (Not completely, only 80% but I'm fine with that) but afterward I've got to find insurance just for her.

I mean, I won't need it for long because my SO is going into the military and we plan on getting married, but I just need it until that happens.

when my daughter was born the hospital immediately signed her up for medicaid so possibly your office does the same thing just call L&D and ask them
