Sippy cup question

posted 28th Aug
I have given Nathan a sippy since he was about 4 months.  He doesn't really get it though.  He drinks water from it.  I will put 4 oz in there and in 8 hrs he will drink maybe 2 oz.  I got the gerber one with the soft spout and handle.

He's 8 months now.  I know there's not a time limit on when he has to get off the bottle but I put milk in it today and he saw his bottle and started crying and reaching for it.  It was so funny.

My question is when did you introduce milk into the sippy?

I have been trying to get Olyvia to take milk from a sippy and she hates it. A friend of mine, with three kids, said she waited until the 1 year mark when she could introduce regular milk and then she started giving it to them in the sippy. Since it was different, they didn't have a problem taking it that way! So, that's what I'm going to do. But, I do still try every now and then! lol

My son is 9 months and I've tried off and on, but he just doesn't like it and I'm not going to force it.

I give my daughter (6 1/2 months) a small cup to play with and learn from. Then every so often I give her the sippy cup (Dr. Browns). She is watching me pretend to drink from it and then she tries it herself....it is SOOO cute!
I'm hoping that the cup trick helps her learn how to use the sippy cup soon

Good luck to everyone trying to figure this whole thing out! I know I need it!

My son is 10.5 months and just started taking a sippy (we bf, so it was hard for him to learn anything else since he didn't use a bottle). We just started giving him juice yesterday, but have not tried milk or formula yet... I wouldn't push it, he has plenty of time to adjust.

I give him breastmilk in a cup, that's what I meant by milk.  I just really give it to him to play with and he takes sips from it but would much rather have his bottle.  I guess I will try a little more when he gets cows milk so it tastes different.  Thanks!

I wont put BM in a sippy because he waists so much..

The way I look at it is the Sippy cup is for a drink, and the bottle is for a meal. If you are giving them the milk in between feedings then I think the sippy is fine, but otherwise I wouldn't do it.

I put formula in a cup at 6 months when I introduced the cup.. she only get bottles at naptimes, bedtime and middle of the night after I introduced the cup. *this age is when I slowly started "weaning" her from the bottle*

By 7 months she had the hang of it and had no issues with drinking anything I put in there

At 11 1/2 months she was bottle/formula broke and drank cows milk from a sippy. At 14 months she still drinks from a sippy   She could drink from a regular cup but ends up with one drink in her and the rest on her ;)

we just had catherine's 6 month dr appointment today, and her doctor wants me to start giving her formula in the sippy and getting rid of the bottle already.

Quoting natesmomma:“ Really?”

i thought it was a little weird, but i'm willing to try it. he also told me she was very advanced for her age, doing things 8 and 9 month old babies should be doing, so that's probably why he wanted her to switch to the sippy. i'm thinking it might be easier to switch earlier when she's not as attached to the bottle as say when she's a year old.

Yeah that would be easier.  How is she doing so far or did you not start yet?
