The Simplicity company which makes bassinetts, cribs, and other baby items do not care for the safety of your child all they want is their money. Earlier on babygaga a lady (I am grateful to!!) posted the link to the story on the death of two babies in Simplicity products. After the death of two babies in their products the company refuses to recall the cribs stating they are not responsible for them since there are new owners of the company. This is complete and total garbage. They are now Simplicity and I can not believe a company will not stand behind their name. If you have a Simplicity bassinett please check to see if you own the one in question. I would hate to see another baby pass because of the negligence of this company. Even though there isn't a recall WalMart is offering a full refund for your bassinett.
Please do not support a company that cares more about their profits than your child's life. I am calling for a ban of their items and hope others will inform their friends and family of the same. Thanks ladies!!

Federal Agency Issues Warning on Popular Bassinet
2nd baby's death prompts federal agency to warn parents to stop using popular bassinet
By BILL DRAPER Associated Press Writer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. August 28, 2008 (AP)
The Associated Press
The federal Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning parents and caregivers to immediately stop using a popular brand of bassinet after the death of a second baby attributed to the product.
(WABC)
The warning covers the Simplicity 3-in-1 and Simplicity 4-in-1 bassinets. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., one of the largest distributors of the product, said Thursday it is pulling the bassinets off of its shelves and its Web site.
"We are working with the supplier and CPSC and are directing store managers to remove product identified in the CPSC press release from store shelves and initiating a register block to prevent sale," Wal-Mart said in a statement. "In addition, we are in the process of removing this product from sale at Walmart.com."
CPSC spokeswoman Julie Vallese said Thursday the danger is so severe that the agency was compelled to issue the warning late Wednesday ahead of a likely recall.
Last week, a 6-month-old Shawnee, Kan., girl was strangled after trying to slip through the metal tubes that run down the side of the bassinet. Police say her body fit through the tubes, but her head could not. In September 2007, a 4-month-old Pineville, Mo., girl died after being caught between the rail of her Simplicity 4-in-1 bassinet and the mattress.
The CPSC says the "close-sleeper/bedside sleeper" bassinets have metal bars spaced farther apart than the maximum 2 3/8 inches allowed under federal crib safety standards. The bars are covered by an adjustable fabric flap that is attached by Velcro, which can fall if not properly attached and allow an infant to slide between the bars.
Vallese said the agency is acting under new authority granted under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, signed by President Bush earlier this month.
Simplicity recalled about 1 million cribs on Sept. 21, 2007, after reports of three deaths and seven babies who had become trapped. Vallese said the recall put Simplicity out of business, and its assets were purchased by SFCA Inc. in April. The CPSC said in a statement Wednesday that SFCA "has refused to cooperate with the government and recall the products. SFCA maintains that it is not responsible for products previously manufactured by Simplicity Inc."SFCA insisted Thursday that the warning does not involve any product it manufactures or distributes. It noted that the CPSC said its warning does not include bassinets produced in recent months that have fabric permanently attached over the bar a feature SFCA says its bassinets include."All bassinets produced and sold by SFCA are produced in this manner, with fabric permanently attached over the lower bar, and meet or exceed ASTM standards and CPSC guidelines," the company said.

2 More Killed in
Simplicity Bassinets
WASHINGTON - Government safety officials warned parents Thursday about Simplicity bassinets after two more infants were killed when they became trapped.
Two young children died after getting trapped in previously recalled Simplicity close-sleeper/bedside sleeper bassinets, the Consumer Product Safety Commission disclosed.
The company's 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets contain metal bars spaced farther apart than federal standards allow. If the Velcro-fastened fabric covering the metal bars of the bassinets is not properly adjusted, it can be dangerous.
In September 2008, a two-month-old girl in Demorest, Ga., suffocated when she became trapped in a pocket of fabric, which was not properly secured to the bassinet. In January 2009, a six-month-old girl in Fort Worth, Texas, died when the fabric flap was undone and she got trapped between the exposed bars.
The CPSC warned against these Simplicity bassinets in August 2008, when it reported the deaths of two infants who also got trapped.
All of the bassinets manufactured before May 18, 2008 have been recalled. This includes some sold under the Graco brand, some with a Winnie the Pooh motif, as well as other bassinets.
Recalled bassinets can be returned to the retail stores where they were purchased. For details on the affected products, visit:

Please make sure you are not using the bassinet in question! Double check, triple check just please make sure!
