Question about daycare rules for biting

posted 28th Aug
My son was bitten on his face of all places today at daycare. Broke the skin and all. Looks lke he has a hicky or lip sticko n his face. The teacher said she wasnt allowed to tell me which kid had bitten him but that she witnessed the whole thing and afterwards the kid that bit him knew he was wrong cause he said bad baby bite and then hugged my son. Any body know what the rules are about these things. Like I know the kid got a write up for it, I just dont wanna have to worry about this again. The teacher also said it was one of the older kids in the class (his class is 12-24 months) and shefelt like he (the other kid)was ready to go to the 24-48 month class. Do you think this is worth talking to the director about?

Im not sure if they can or cant tell you which kid did it but they do have to inform the mother of the child that bit and you should talk to the director to see what action was taken.
Unfortunatly some kids do bite, i know its nasty but they do.

I hope your son is ok

I work at a daycare, and we are NOT allowed to say which child bit the other one. If you are really concerned about it you can talk to the director, but she can't take a child out of the class because they bit. Thats what kids do...

Most daycares don't disclose the other kid but I'd definitely have a conversation with the director about what happened and stress that you hope they're diligent in recognizing when a child is outgrowing the peer group they have them assigned to. The teacher sounds like she did the right thing and was up front about it so I don't see any fault on her part.

i dont know, but my son used to bite when he was about 1 1/2 and my daycare "had to let him go". lmao. my son younger than two got kicked out of daycare. needless to say he learned the crap from another stinkin kid AT THE DANG DAYCARE.   anyhow i changed daycares for 6 months and sent him back , he was fine. never did it again. i dont know the policy at your place but my daycare does not fool around! they kicked my kid out!

I worked in a daycare some years back and the teacher was correct in saying she couldnt tell you which child bit your little boy...im sorry that happened, ive had it happen to my son when he was 2yrs old, and i was pissed!! But i would go to the administrator and stress your concerns about what happened, and may be ask if she/he spoke with the parents of the child who bit your son....The daycare i worked at would kick kids out for excessive bitting....and since he apologized im sure he has done it before and knows its a bad thing

definitely not allowed to say who did it. You let the (biter) child know it was not okay and just stay consistent with that. Time out is not allowed but you can redirect ..and that's abou tit. Really, it's just normal behavior...not that it doesn't suck when it's your own kid.

That happened to my daughter. She was bitten right over the eye. That was the last straw in a bad situation and I started calling that night for a new daycare. You can only punish a 1-2 yo so much, and like another poster said, they usually learn from the kids there.
