Giving Baby Sugar Water Before Shots?

I've read in a magazine that Peds recommend giving baby a spoonfull of sugar water before they get their shots to calm them down?? Is this true??

Dont know. I was told sugar water was good for constipation. Dont know anything about shots.

Why would sugar calm them down???

they gave anthony a little bit of sugar water when he was born, because he was so fussy later on the entire night.. i dont think it helped anything though.

I heard on the news that sugar with shots are better then using pain meds with shots.

when my son was a week old they gave him sugar water before they did the circumsition and it kept him so calm... so yeh a lil sugar water wont hurt a thing before shots

I take suger water for my hiccups. It always gets rid of them. Ive always heard of giving them tynol. However you spell it. Of corse the baby kind. Thats what they gave madison before she got her 2 month shots.

I got my baby's shots done at the health department and they gave him a sugar base before they gave him his shots.
They also do this before cercumsision. The sugar produces more endorphines in the brain and makes the baby happier so they don't feel as much pain.

sugar water calms babies down. It is used in the hospital all the time for kids usally under one, it is called (sweet easies S/P). Anyway it is safe and sometime buts them to sleep. MYson got it several times while in the NICU and I work at a childrens hopsital where we use it all the time.

oooo interesting. but how much sugar do u put in the water?

not sure since we get it already mixed in a small pack, but it is not much thicker then water.
