some random questions....

posted 27th Aug
So.. my hubby and I had an appointment with L&D today to fill out all the necessary paperwork, watch some video's and take a tour of the L&D floor.. I have to say that I am EXTREMELY excited now that we only have around 7 weeks left.. it's hard to believe our baby girl will be here that soon! Is anyone taking the birthing classes or anything? I'm registered for those, breastfeeding, the "Happiest Baby on the Block" classes... can you tell I'm a first time mom, lol!

I was also wondering who you were allowing in the delivery room with you?? I'd like to have my mom in there with us but I'd also like it to be something intimate for my hubby and I... so who knows.. they asked us tonight who we were going to have as coaches but so far it's just me and my hubby in the room... plus, if my mom goes in then he will want his mom to go in too.. ugh.. i hate making these decisions sometimes, lol..

Aside from today's visit, I have a doctor appointment this Friday... I'm wondering if they will check to see if I'm dialated at all... I'll be 34 weeks on Sunday.. those of you who have kids -- how far along do you have to be before they start monitoring that? All my friends who are pregnant have been checked at 34 weeks but they go to a different doctor...

Thanks for any thoughts you can share with me on the questions I had above!

It was just my hubby and I in the room and I can honestly say I never felt closer to him. Our families came to visit while I was in labor, I was in labor for 48 hours, so plenty of visiting time, but left when I started to push.

One of the reasons my mom wasn't there was that then his mom would want to be there, and that was a major HELL NO.

I was checked at 34 weeks, so good luck!

I took a lamaze class and it was full of hippie bull shit.

The whole thing was the lady saying "Imagine your cervix opening like a beautiful rose..."

haha.. that's kind of how I'm feeling about the whole thing.. was your mom disappointed at all? My mom is like one of my best friends and I can understand if my hubby wants it to be btw the two of us but I've had my reservations about "other" people being in there (and I'm not talking about my mom, lol)... I get along with my MIL but... I don't know... it's just weird..

I'm really looking forward to Friday's visit... I hope they check me to see if I'm dialated at all.. that would be so exciting!

I literally just started busting out laughing when I read your comment... I won't let my husband see that because then he'll really be like "OH HELL NO!" lol..

Seriously-- we signed up for a two day class... and only went to the first day because we learned nothing.

I am taking a breastfeeding class, and a basic infant care class soon.

I had my mom in there with me. I also had my boss in there with me. She took pictures. Maybe you could have your mom or even his mom (to keep her busy) lol take some pictures of the babies first moments with momma and daddy!

yeah.. i kinda like that idea but i have to get my husband to agree.. our families are so different it's not even funny so sometimes when we are all together i get very nervous and full of anxiety... deep down i'm not sure if i want to deal with that the day i'm going into labor.. i really want my mom there though.. his mom is very... up and down... and i can never get a read on her.. she says she loves me but then complains to me when she hasn't heard from him in weeks.. it drives me slightly crazy... and i feel like she's always comparing herself to my mom.. i hate it.. if you were in my situation --- what would you do??

To be honest, I didn't really pay attention to anyone who was in my room during delivery. I was caught up in doing what i was supposed to be doing, and just wasn't really aware. I even agreed to let some students/interns come in and watch, I just dont even remember it. I'm sure it'll be the same for you.
I didnt have people in the room before hand so i could rest, so if you choose to let your mom and mil in, you might do that, so that you wont have to have her in there, until the time comes, and by then, you'll be so focused on your baby.

I dont know your mil, or your family dynamics, so i can't really say what you should do. I just dont think it will be as big of an issue as you might think it is. You just have to remember its YOU having the baby. My husband doesn't even plan on being in the room for this baby, and that is perfectly fine with me. I'd rather he not see like that (he wasnt there the first time) because it's not glamourous, but i know when it comes down to it, I dont care who is in there, because i wont even notice. =]

yeah, you're right... my pregnancy tends to get the best of my mind so maybe I'm just reading too much into it.. I talked to my MIL ealier and she wasn't in the bst of moods.. I'm thinkin' this is why I feel so weird about it right now.. I've always been the one to care about what other people thought of me and at some point I have to let that go... I was like that way in high school for pete's sake.. my mom tells me I definitely stress toooooooo much.. but thank you for your thoughts.. just by asking the question and getting feedback from everyone is satisfying..
