Toxemia

Soo...We just got back from GA and I have been walking a lot lately, but seriously, my ankles are sooooo swollen and they hurt. I don't have any swelling in my face though, and the swelling in my hands/fingers is minor. Has any one had pre-eclampsia? How swollen did you get? Should I maybe call the doc?

Any help would be great, I am just nervous...

swelling is normal, especially in the feet. However if you are worried call. thats what they are there for.
i am on bedrest for preeclampsia. I have swelling in pretty much every part of my body and high blood pressure. My face, more below my chin, is massive, my hands and feet are massive, behind my knees are massive.

My advice, drink lots of water, cut out salt, and put your feet up. If you can get some ted stockings (available in any pharmacy). Those are just tight stockings that help get circulation moving.Any time you are sitting/laying you should have your feet elevated.

good luck, and if you are worried call.

I had preeclampsia. They usually aren't too concerned about swelling in the legs/ankles/feet, especially if it is better in the morning and worse at the end of the day. If so it is considered dependent edema, and is totally normal in pregnancy and is caused by the extra blood volume in pregnancy as well as the decreased return due to the weight of the baby pressing on the blood vessels. If it doesn't get better when you have your legs up or develop other signs of preeclampsia, sever epigastric pain that won't go away with antacids, vision changes, or headaches that don't get better with Tylenol, then I would call your doctor.
Oh and BTW I got really swollen feet, but not terribly anywhere else. But you could press your finger in like an inch (at my ankle) and half an hour later it would still be there.
