Rice cereal for the 1st time

posted 26th Aug
We just got the OK today from Isaac Pedi to start rice cereal. Whoo hooo!!! . So we plan to give it to him in about an hour. I was wondering if any of you had any advise? how to feed it? how much to mix with formula? remember: this is his first time on anything but formula so I think we have to give him a very small amount. Help me out mamas!

My mom spoon fed me rice cereal. She said she hated that it would get all nasty in the nipple of a bottle...

I personally would not offer it to him this early... but if you are going to do it anyhow I would recommend making it very thin/watery and only offer it on a spoon.

I think you are only supposed to start with 1 tablespoon of cereal to start. I just mixed in the formula until it was pretty runny the first time.
BUT...you are supposed to start it in the morning-its the rule when you introduce any new foods to your baby. You dont know if they are going to have an allergic reaction or not and if they do you want them to have any reaction during the day, not during the night while you are all asleep.
I hope that makes sense...its hard to think and type while my baby is banging on the keyboard...

No problem!
Once he starts on cereal and does okay with it you can give him some before bed. Only give it to him in the morning for a couple of days though. Just to be safe
But it should help with sleeping through the night! Good Luck! Let me know if you have any more questions
Glad to help
