mass ge at chiropracter

posted 26th Aug
I am 6 weeks pregnant and go to the chiropracter everyweek. Is it ok for them to use the electric massager on my shoulders and back? I have heard that it may cause miscarriages?

electric massager?! Ive had regular chiropractic work for severe health issues over the last decade and ive never heard of that!

If you tell them you are pregnant, they will adjust what they can do.

I get adjusted and then its like a massager whichhas like balls on the end and it vibrates on your back to relax the muscles so they are more likely to stay in adjustment. But will massage cause misscarriage?

Ah ok, i get hands on manipulation. I could do the other thing at home for free lol. But no those things shouldnt cause m/c. Do tell your chiropracter you are pregnant though, because they will need to change how they work on you. Most prefer to stop until you are past 12 weeks aswel as a safety precaution.

The reason that most massagers have "do not use if pregnant" on them is because when they viberate, they cause increased blood flow to that area - therefore reducing blood flow to the baby. If you were already at risk, then it could cause I problem, but I've never heard of anyone miscarrying because of it. I think they put the label on to reduce the risk of lawsuits. If your chiropractor thinks its safe, then you should be just fine - just make sure you inform him that your pregnant and of any major changes along the way (blood pressure, diabetes, whatever).
