IUD Insertion- pain?!

posted 26th Aug
I want to get Mirena for y birthcontrol. I read someones story on here the other day about how horrible it was to get an IUD inserted.. So now Im questioning it.. I want to know from you girls who have had an IUD put in what kind of pain you had pre-insertions, during insertion and after wards.. Do they use any kind of number, pain killer? Thanks in adavnace

I didn't get any pain killers. It felt like a REALLY big cramp when it was actually inserted and then I cramped for a few days after.

They use a spray to numb the cervix. Does it feel great? No. But I think you canhandle a little bit of dicomfort for 5 years of worry free birth control!

I was told to take a mortin before I wnet. All I felt was a cramp like I was getting my period and that was it but the time I left the doctors office the cramping was gone.

No, no meds for the pain. I got mine in June and it wasn't bad. I had a c-section with my twin boys so my doc just wanted to make sure my goods were okay before getting it. It hurt a little but I think labor was worse and if you've had your membranes stripped then you'll be fine. I was at least, it is the spotting that's killing me,lol.

It was bad for me.. but that's because the Mirena kept getting caught on my cervix.. OUCH. I attempted to have it placed twice and the doctor just couldn't get it in so she gave up. She said I could go have my cervix physically dialated and then try again but.. no thanks. It just wasn't worth it to me. I ended up getting the NuvaRing instead.

Did you go while you were on your period?

To tell you the truth, the spray hurt like a bitch and I don't think it numbed a damn thing...so you didn't miss much!
