To induce or not to induce?

So are there really any down falls to inducing? I'm 4 cm dilated and just about 39 weeks.

It increases your risk of other interventions including C-section which is serious abdominal surgery.

why would yo ube induced then?

induction should really only happen if medically necessary. like if you go to 42 weeks and dont have a baby or dialate any further... but if you're already 4cm, you should be fine. just beware if you planned on the EPI, you may not be able to get it if you go much further dialated!

ya thats what i thought last week when i was told i was 4!! nothing is frigin happening and now dr thinks we should incude friday morning. only reason she gave was because of what my last post said...(about being positive for group b strep) wanting to get antibiotics in before she is born.

i didnt realize women had the option... i thought the doc was the one that had to "call it"

it would probably work well for you. but i would at least wait until you were 40-41 weeks. but i dont see how it would be a problem in your case.

ya we have the option and i think its crazy when people do it out of pure "convenience". my dr said if it were her in my case she would do it.....she seems to think that b/c i'm group b strep positive that if my labor goes too fast that she won't be able to get the amount of antibiotics in before the baby is born.....but she is kind of giving me the option to not do it too? which is a tough decision to make ya know?

My doc doesn't want me to go too far past 41 weeks because of the early ultrasounds we had were all very close...I had an induction last time due to Gestational Diabetes and HATED it completely. I went from feeling no pain whatsoever to being in complete hell...there was nothing gradual about it like in a natural birth. She has an induction date set for Tuesday the 2nd which will be 41 weeks, 2 days...I don't want it to get that far though...I want her to come ASAP!! Inductions are horrible (in my opinion!!).

well good to hear. I hear for some it goes great and others its hell. i guess theres not a definite answer. hmmm. decisions decisions

I'd wait!!! I know how tempting it is, trust me, I was in your shoes w/ the first baby... and I did it. I was able to have a "normal" vaginal birth, but it just didn't do it for me. I feel like I know nothing about how labor and birth REALLY work, and I've had a kid! That is me personally, but I would def. look up the risks involved, there are many... which I was too naive to know at the time.

I totally agree with you... there is no build-up to the contractions. One minute you're fine the next it's horrible. And I'm a pretty tough cookie. I had planned on a non-medicated birth, but with contractions lasting 30 seconds and coming so fast, I opted for the epi.

I would wait. there is no other feeling like you r water breaking and you relizing OMG this baby is coming!! and having to call your hubby/ SO ant telling him its time, mine had just gotten to work(he beat me to the hospital) but that was so cool!! WAIT if you can.
