We've discussed the Duggars on here before. I don't like them. But that's beyond the point. When a family is so big that older siblings are almost entirely responsible for the upbringing of younger siblings, yes, the family is too big.

You know my dad has 10 brothers and sisters and that's how things used to be back in the day. Now people only have one or two kids b/c lets face it, it's expensive to raise kids. I wouldn't have that many kids, but what they do doesn't bother me.

My biggest issue are families who keep having children that they cannot afford. If you can afford to give your children their basic needs, without Government assistance, then all the more power to you. I am not knocking people who need to receive Government assistance, but if you are currently receiving it and consciously make the decision to have more childrenIMO that is irresponsible.

My DH's cousin is pregnant with her 10th and I think that's nuts! It's not something I think I'd be able to do... But to each his own... But I agree the parents should be the parents, and the siblings shouldn't be held responsible for their younger siblings...

my mom has 11 brothers and sisters, and the younger ones have no relationship with the older ones because there's an 18 year age difference between them. I just think if you have such a large family, you have to accept that some of your kids are hardly going to know each other because of the age diffence.

oh yeah, and a woman I work with is the youngest of 22!!! All by the same mother and father. I think thats just crazy, a woman isn't a cat, she's not ment to give birth to that many children.

If a woman is able to have 16 kids safely, how can you say she is not meant to do that. People have been doing that forever.

Well I would love to keep having children as long as I am able and if that is 4-5-6 more I'd do it. I've prayed to God to help me because If Gabriel gets all my love he is going to have a terrible ego-he already thinks he is the smartets kid in the world-I've tried to pop his bubble but his tests say otherwise. But as long as it's affordable I'd do it.

yes, and look how many women have died giving birth to multiple children. Thats actually why Margret Sanger went on a cruscaide to havebirth control and contraceptives made legal, because she watched her mother go though 18 pregnancys (several were miscarages) until she finally died giving birth. I know we have better medical care now, but its still to much strain on a womans body.

Yeah, but no one forces a woman to have that many children and I am sure the Dr. advises them of the risk of having so many. I don't know how you can have so many c-sections and it still be safe though.

Yeah, I don't mean to quote you but I don't think it is right not to be made a baby making machine or to be held prisoner by being kept pregnant. Some families need BC but for me, (now that I am newly unemployed) would still like to have a lot more kids. And yes I will be employed and still not living off the Gov. But it is not up to me to decide others life choices.

i AM A MOTHER OF FIVE CHILDREN AGES 5, 4, 3, 1 1/2, AND THREE MONTHS OLD TODAY. I LOVE HAVING ALL THE KIDS CLOSE IN AGE. I THINK LARGE FAMILIES CAN BE A BLESSING, AND CAN ALSO BE A BAD SITUIATION IF THE PARENTS ARE NOT DEDICATED ENOUGH TO MAKING SURE EACH CHILD RECIEVES INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION ON A DAILY BASIS. THERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT ARE HARD WITH LONG FAMILIES LIKE TRANSPORTATION AND GOING TO THE GROCERY STORE. I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING THOUGH. MY KIDS ALWAYS HAVE SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH AND WILL ALWAYS HAVE SOMEONE THAT IS CLOSE TO THEM.
