Political Affiliation and Parents

posted 26th Aug
Do you share the same political views as your parents?

My mom defines herself as a republican but she is pro-choice and pro gay marriage, so I believe she has more libertarian leanings. She votes republican 95% of the time, but will be voting Obama this time.

My Dad is a strict democrat. He is a union guy and will not ever vote for a republican. The dems could nominate a flea and he woudl vote for it lol He is actually more conservative on social issues, but his union issues outweigh all.

I am way more left than either of my parents and am a registered independent. I think I took my social issues from my mom and the democratic principals from my dad. Combined they made an ultra liberal

My parents never voted for a certain aprty. They just voted who they felt was the best choice. I am the same way. I would not consider myself to be a "conservative" but I do have some conservative views.

my Dad raised me and my sisters (along with my stepmom) and he's pretty conservative. pro-life, not so much for gay marriage...that sort of stuff.

my mom, who left us when i was about 3, is a "staunch republican." she's ridiculous!   you cannot, i mean can NOT, have a political discussion let alone a debate with her. she is so close to her republican beliefs, she can't see or keep her mind open to anything else. my opinion, but i believe it's based in fact. LOL. she's asinine with most of the things she's says. she's a hypocrite. she's waaaaaaaaaaaay against obama. it's nuts. but bush? oh he was her man.

me? i'm a registered independent. i think it's silly, imo, to say you're JUST this or JUST that unless you truly are JUST THAT! mybeliefs bleed more into the liberal side of issues but i have some conservative beliefs as well. thus my reasoning for registering that way. i am NOT just a republican or democrat. i think most of those people are idiots! if you're sooooo close to the views/beliefs/ideologies you "believe" you can only SEE those issues. you have to be able to step back, listen to others opinions/beliefs and THEN make your decision. i think, personally, that it is silly to vote/register a certain party just because your parents vote that way. do you really believe and share the same views?   i'd say there is probably more differentiation than that, but i could be wrong. most people do have differences but vote a certain way as whomever just because they don't want to research or educate themselves to form their own opinions.

i get irritated by that. sorry for the vent there. lol.

My father said he was a Republican, but all he ever did was vote. He didn't care about politics too much, it didn't interest him and he hardly ever talked about political issues.

My mother is more progressive and her views on social issues are very liberal and on economic issues are moderate, although I don't think she would say she belonged to any political party. She has voted for Republicans, Democrats, and Libertarians, depending on what she thinks of them and their policies. I'm a lot like her. I consider myself independent, although I vote for Democrats most of the time, I have found myself voting for Republicans or Libertarians when the Democrat running was either a Republican plant or a total buffoon.

Really, she won't vote for Obama because of his middle name?

i've heard a lot of people say that. i'm not a fan of his, but his middle name? oookay...why's that something to base your vote on?

I do but I feel like it's a coincidence. My parents were never much on raising us with their values- they pretty much left us to our own devices.

My mom is a republican. I've always viewed myself as a Democrat, but perhaps I'm a little of each.

I believe in having guns (I'm a Southerner..this is just to be expected), pro-choice, I believe that our military is very important and funding should not be cut from them or their families, blah, blah.

I'm voting Republican this time. I don't get tied up in a new, cool, young guy running. I see through such shenanigans.
