My parents are both conservative and when I moved out of the house, I didn't want to be like them so I assumed I was a democrat.

Then I went to college and the more I learned, the more conservative I became

So...you're saying Dems are dumbasses?

LOL, j/k, I know you weren't, but I couldn't resist!

You know what's funny? My mum is pretty conservative (anti-gay-marriage, pro-life, christian etc) while my dad is kind of a marxist. My dad was around until I was about 10, but I still have more political views in common with my dad than I do my mum.

I think it has a lot to do with a person's disposition on life, and I think perhaps disposition has a lot to do with genetic makeup: whether we are overly optimistic vs pessimistic for example, could be largely to do with brain processes and physiology. That's not to undermine the nurture part of what makes us who we are, but we can underestimate the importance genes have in our daily lives, thoughts and feelings.

Actually, it was more like...I was a dumbass when I thought I was a democrat. But I wised up

My parents are very conservative and Republican (the two do not always coincide) and tend to vote based on what their religion guides them to do. I am more open-minded but still take some of the political beliefs that they raised me with.

I have no idea what my Mom is because she refuses to tell anyone. She doesn't want to believe what she does just because she is our Mom. My dad is an independent, and I'm pretty sure he's voting for McCain this time. I would say I am extremely liberal. I don't think my parents had much to do with my political affiliation.

My mom considers herself a Libertarian, but she is a registered Democrat.

My dad, on the other hand, is a registered Republican, but he isn't a "typical" Republican, I guess. He doesn't believe in the two-party system, does not support the war in the middle east, and detests W. For some reason, though, he hates Barack Obama, and told me that I am only voting for him because "he is black".
HAHA! I'm so white I'm practically transparent. The two of us can not discuss the election; it ends up in a screaming match.

My dad and step-mom are staunch Republicans. My dad and I have some great debates on politics and issues.
My mom isfiscally conservative and socially liberal. She's very much anIndependent, although she often votes Republican. My step-dad is much the same, almost strictly voting Republican. They are both pro-choice and pro-gay rights, and both are extremely open-minded. They run conservative when it comes to military/economy, and they tend to base their votes on that, since they don't think anyone could actually repeal Roe vs. Wade and that eventually gays will get civil unions on a federal level.

I lean to the left on almost every issue, although I tend to be a bit more conservative when it comes to the military. I wouldn't call myself a radical liberal though. More Independent than anything.

My parents are very republican and conservative, but I am definitely a democrat, which the exception of the abortion issue.

My mom has a funny saying- "If you're not a liberal in your 20's, then you have no heart. If you're not a conservative in your 40's, then you have no brain."

Haha, I just think that's funny

Then I must have no heart, b/c even though I'm registered Democrat [didn't know a thing about politics when I registered and basically said eeny meeny miney moe] I always tend to vote Republican b/c I identify more with them. I really need to change my party affiliation.
