heart problem while preggo
posted 25th Aug
I have atrial fibrillation, which put plainly means i have a weird heartbeat and when I get stressed out and my heart beats fastI get dizzy and can sometimes faint.
I've had to take my maternity leave from work 2 weeks early cos i was starting to get dizzy at work,
my midwife has made an appointment with be to see the doctor on my next appt (1 week today), but I was wondering if anyone else has had a heart problem while pregnant, I was thinking maybe it will mean I will need an epidural (which I plan to have anyway) or a c-section.

no, I had 2 murmurs(tricuspid and atrial valves)that occured from my pregnancy with my son, my heart was very bad with my daughter but no testing was done. we had other stuff to worrry about. with my son I had the murmurs and I had a irregular beat with runs of bigemeny. I had a rate of 130 or more a minute. I saw a cardiologist regularly and had many spells of blacking out.I did fine during my 5 days of labor got the epi, but it never took effect. you will be fine just make sure you are monitored

I was diagnosed with Tachycardia in my first pregnancy, and have had to deal with it again in this pregnancy. My heartrate for no reason goes up to 180 or higher and then I faint. I have been on bedrest with both pregnancies, and had to have a c-section because they were worried about the stress of the delivery with my heart. I had the c-section with my daughter, and they actually put me out with general anesthesia in case something happened with my heart. Also, a cariologist was scrubbed in as well as my OBGYN. As they pulled my daughter out my heart rate dropped, and they had to shock me back to normal. I was in the ICU for a few days, butafter delivering my heart went back tonormal! Then I got pregnant with this one, and the same things have happened.
Hopefully things go well for you!!!

Thanks, I have actually known about my heart problem for a few years now, but they thought I would be fine during the pregnancy and birth, but obviously these last couple of weeks have put a bit of stress on my heart.
