mirena & tricare

posted 25th Aug
I was just wondering if anyone knew if Tricare covered the mirena. I plan on getting it and was looking through all my tricare info and couldn't find anything on it. I'm sure my doctor's office can check into it, but I was hoping to get an idea before my appt. Thanks ladies!

I looked into this before, and overseas they did, but not sure about if you are Prime or Standard, i think that will have something to do with it.

the only thing in the hand book about birth control, is that it isnt covered if it is a non-prescription. i was wondering the same thing because its kinda expensive if they dont.

I know but I hate taking the pill. I use to do the nuva ring(which is great) but I can't use that because I'm BF

i havent had any problems with them yet. but i hope they do cover it. because i am breast feeding and when my husband comes home i dont want the chance to get pregnant again. i want to enjoy the time with him and our daughter.

So i just went to the tricare sight to see if they cover it. They do cover the Mirena.
http://tricare.mil/mybenefit/search.do?&kw=Birth%20Control&keywords=Birth%20Control&colls=CMS_IsItCovered

if you go there you can search anything to see if it is covered. But im glad to know that it is covered. because its expensive.

Hi, there. This is what I found on Tricare website under the medication formulary

Not covered under the TRICARE benefit.
Although this medication is not covered under the pharmacy portion of the TRICARE benefit, it may be covered under the medical benefit. Please check to see if this medication is available in your healthcare provider's office by working with your Managed Care Support Contractor.
