Did your boobs ever feel normal while breast feeding?

posted 25th Aug
I can't remember exactly how things went down with my first baby five years ago, so maybe someone with more recent experience can tell me how it's been for them...

I've been breast feeding for three weeks now and all is well. My nipples have adjusted; I'm not engorged. But my boobs more or less constantly feel very sensitive, with a tingly, prickly feeling a lot of the time, even when my baby is nowhere near them. They're extremely sensitive to the touch.

Is this going to persist as long as I breast feed, or do they eventually normalize? Also... do they stay this gigantic as long as I'm breast feeding, or will they go down to a more moderate size?

I breast fed my first for 18 months, and I don't recall having boobs that felt/looked like this that whole time...

The tingly/prickly feeling is usualy a sign of let-down.
I stopped BFing 4 months ago, and my breasts still very sensitive. I almost cringe when my hubby touches them.

I've been bfing for 4 months now and they feel normal-ish now, but the size is still bigger than I used to have. The tingling feeling is letdown, but if I go too long between feedings, I get it then also...I think it's my milk wanting to letdown.

Off topic, but we talked about the milk/soy free diet a month or so ago and thanks again for that! I've been MSPI-free for a month and a half and my little girl tested negative for blood in her stools at her four month appointment, so the diet is working! Yeah  !

My breasts seemed to get a little smaller after a few months - it seem to take about three or four months. As far as feeling normal - I really don't like ANYONE touching my breasts while I breastfeed. Meaning hubby - I just dont find it a turn on while breastfeeding - I think your breasts will always kind of feel werid - mine felt that way when they would start get full or be producing more milk.

Thanks for the responses, ladies. Yeah, the prickly sensation feels like let-down, except it happens all the time... like even ten minutes after I feed him and he's sleeping in the other room.

And speaking of let-down, I don't remember-- does it feel like that forever, or does it get easier? When my baby latches on, it's like an electric shock all the way up to my shoulder. I'm talking toe-curling, gasp-OUCH!

No. It lets up. I nursed Elliott till 9 months. I feel sort of normal now. It's been 3 weeks or so. I swear I got the let down feeling today though. Just happy to have them back.

Yeah, it should improve with time. I bfed my daughter for 18 months also, and by the end I never had much tingly letdown at all, and my boobs had become very normal-ish in size and sensetivity. I think they were only crazy for the first month or two, but for sure by six months when he starts eating some solids your supply should decrease some and be more flexible as far as leakage and letdown and whatnot. Good luck!!   Glad everything's going well with you guys! Hope you have a great night.

Well, I have been bfing for 14 months and don't get let down feelings anymore but my boobs & nipples are still very sensitive, mostly just my nipples though.

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear the sensitivity and electric let-down will ease up at least a little in the near future.

I really feel your pain. I've only been nursing 2 weeks and everything has been great but my daughter got a cold and nursing hurts a lot more--she latches on and off. Ouch! I hope you feel better soon!
