OK what do you guys think

First of all i know all kids are diffrent and you dont know my child so you cant make a decision for me but i just need ppl to bounce this off of. Ok my son is in specail ed for a speach problem he makes slow but steady progress he still really only talks with 2 or 3 words at a time. He has also been dignosed as autistic. With all these things this year they wanted to do something called inclusion which is like 1 hour reg pre-k and 2 hours spe ed. I was ok with that but now they call today to set up an ARD cause they want to change him to MORE pre-k like 2 hours and 1 hour spec ed. And mind you hes not compelty toliet trained yet. So what do you guys think? Im bouncing this off of everyone cause i dunno if im just trying to keep him a baby for as long as i can or if i really have to be conserned. Now i really have only see him play with one child and thats my nef and they get really wild so i dont really know how he would act with a whole class of children. And just so everyone knows no matter what we choose it can always be changed.

The educators and specialists are used to the trials that go along with challenging kids so don't worry about his behavior with other kids. If anything, being with an objective group of caretakers might help smooth out some of the innate boy wildness that all boys seem to have, autistic or not. I would say it's best to take whatever programs and help is being offered your way- the sooner he's in school the better off he'll be. I think it's great that they're basically offering you a preschool program based off his needs and I hope it works out for him and for you.

Yeah well he was in a day care and was in trouble all the time cause he doesnt communicate. I dunno i just dont feel like hes ready. He has been in school since he was 3 they offer a program like that here at the ECC(kindergarten) I dont know i really dont know how he acts around other kids so i really cant say. So i dunno i dont think i know what i want to do.

Has he already started school? Is this something they want to change since he has been going?

If so, maybe he is doing very well in pre-k. So maybe they think it is better for him to be around regular children. Alot of kids do better with speech, when they are around other children with normal speech. I know my friends daughter started to speak better after getting interaction time with other children her age.

He got introuble because of his speech? Just because he couldn't communicate? That is horrible! That is wrong of the day care, not your child. That is not your child's fault, wow. I would be mad at those day care teachers.

I am ready for a battle this year, Gabes been in speach since two months, hate the speech program here-think they suck-but sounds like you have some great options and sounds like a accomondating school. have you mad a choice yet-I think two hours of speech would be too long for anyone.
