Joint checking account question (Iowa)

Does anyone know if you can add a non us citizen onto your bank account? My friend wants to add his g/f to his checking account seeing as he makes all the money but is unsure if he's able to do that since she has no SSN...?

Im pretty sure you need a ss number to be even have a bank account. I didnt have to give them my moms because she already had an account there. so they just pulled her info up.

When I added my s/o, I just gave them his name. They only need my info and ssn for the account.
