breastfeeding/formula feeding

posted 24th Aug
So I have given in and I kind of have to... I am going to do both breastmilk and formula feedings, my son is eating more then I have and still not getting full!! I pump and nurse as often as possible to increase my supply but Colton is eating around 7 oz a feeding now, so I nurse him till nothing is coming out then I feed him some of what I have pumped usually a 4 oz bottle(I like to save some incase I might have to leave or something) then he is still hungry so I give him a 2 oz formula bottle, then most of the time he is still hungry so I give him another 1-2 oz formula bottle... Trust me I am still going to breastfeed and give him as much milk as I can!!

But for the moms who do both, what is the best way to do it? Should I give him breast milk for one whole feeding then formula for one whole feeding, or should I give them both to him in one feeding like I have been doing? Or does it not matter?

dong it every other feeding worked best for you then? did it upset her belly at all, that is what I am really worried about!! I dont want him to get sick because my body wont keep up with him!

I feel so bad!! I feel like I made a commitment to him that I cant keep!

as far as your question, id let him nurse as much as you can if you want to keep breastfeeding, because the more he eats the more milk you'll make

when i stopped nursing i felt really bad too, it's okay if it doesn't work out, at least you tried which is more than some people can say. you want what is best for your baby. that in itself makes you a wonderful mother

When he was born he was 8lbs 12oz but we ended up going to the NICU for a lot of reasons but one was becuse he wouldnt eat.. he would cry for food he would latch on or take a bottle, he just wanted nothing to do with it, then when we left he was 3 days old he was a little under his birth weight
at his 5 day check up he was 8lb 13oz
and at his 2 week check up he was 9lbs 9.5oz
and I just weighed him on our home scale at 3 weeks and he was over 10lbs

I'm kind of in the same boat. What I do is breastfeed exclusively through the day and throw in a couple extra pumpings when I'm not as tired. At night I breastfeed him first then offer formula if he still seems hungry. We try to avoid giving him strictly formula as much as possible, except when we're exhausted, then I'll pump and he'll receive formula.

I can totally understand the guilt thing. I feel guilty everytime he gets formula. I always remind myself that as long as he's healthy, it doesn't matter which he gets.
