Putting rice cereal in the bottle

posted 23rd Aug
Addison is almost 4 months old and lately her 4 oz bottles havent been enough for her. Her pedi said I shouldnt start rice cereal until 6 months (shes breastfed by the way) but I cant produce enough milk for her! I can only build up like 1 bottle before I have to go to work then her gma gives her 2 or 3 bottles of formula

Anywho, Since she is so young my mom suggested just putting the cereal in her bottle to help fill her up. Is this ok so young? Also if so how much should I do?

If she is 4 months and you are planning on giving her cereal now why not just use the spoon??

dont give the baby rice cereal in the bottle, give it to her from a spoon, my kids's pedi said 4 months was fine to start rice cereal from a spoon, you could try it, just mix it the way it says on the box, make it really soupy for her and see how she does with it, it might help to fill her up more for you, good luck!

Our pedi told us that we can start rice cereal at 4 months but it should be off a spoon and not in a bottle.

I was told no rice in the bottle. I breastfeed and gave cereal at 4 months on a spoon. The rice in the bottle makes them suck harder and can hurt their ears.

I dont think cereal belongs in a bottle... but.... from what I have learned six months is the recommended but not always the rule. I think that if your baby is letting you know then you should start giving her a little... I am not sure if you should start introducing lots of foods yet... but if milk is not enough for her anymore and you are strictly listening to her cues then you will make the right decision!

no cereal in the bottle... hurts their ears and is a huge choking hazard. Try giving her more formula than 4oz... that's definitely not enough for a 4 month old.

Good point... Aidan was eating 6-7ozs every 3 hours by that age .

We started cereal the night he turned 4 months, with a spoon

I am confused...

If you are breastfeeding... keep letting her nurse til she is full! I mean, breastfeeding is supply and demand. If you have to pump (work, school, etc) I would give whatever you could pump, plus 2 more oz of formula if need be. Definitely increase the fluid oz before you give rice cereal. And if you do then feed by spoon so she can better tell when she is full.

my son had acid reflex and when he was like a month, his doctor told me to put cereal in his cereal so your baby should be just fine!

if your ped doesn't want you to give her straight cereal, what makes you think it's ok to put it in her bottle?

cereal too soon can cause food alergies
