Depends on the age.. When they are infants no. They only cry because they need something when they are infants. But when they are old enough to know the difference and all their needs have been met, but they just want to stay up because they are bored or don't feel like sleeping, I'd let them cry for a little bit and see if they self soothe..I can't go too long though because I eventually get worried that maybe something happened to upset her.. depends on the age, how long, and if all their needs are met. i let my son "fuss it out" but he never really cries it out with me. My husband has let him and my mil let him for 30 minutes when he was only 3 months old  . for me its too hard to let him cry for more than 5 minutes. If hes fussy and im in the middle of something i let him fuss in his play pen until i am done but i try to rush. my son is now 1 year.

If you don't feel comfortable with it then don't. If he is crying because he needs something then I don't see the point in letting him cry it out. Once they get older and cry for practically everything it's smart to sit back and watch them work out their problems for a few minutes first.

No only because I did it with my first and she was 6 months when we started and now at almost 6 years old she still has a hard time going to bed at night and I honestly think it had to do with crying it out. Who wants to fall asleep with all that tention, screaming and it must be scary for them too? I don't think it works for all kids. My second I would just lay her down right after feedings and she was really easy to put down, she also would spend about 20 minutes in her swing and get good and groggy then I would put her in her bassinet.
