Due date/development Question

This is probably a stupid question but I honestly don't have a clue. The due date I currently have is based solely on my LMP. My Dr said that when I get my Ultrasound next month they'll have a clear idea of where the baby is at. But my question is - are due dates based JUST on your LMP? Or how does seeing where the baby is at developmentally change your due date? Do babies just develop at different rates and thats why they can change your due date?

I'm just curious because my Mom thinks I'm further along than what I "should" be based on my lmp because she thinks I'm a lot bigger then what someone else would be at 16 weeks. I know that everyone gains different and shows at different times but I was just curious.

They'll measure the size of your baby's head and belly (it's actually the whole truck of the body), and maybe the femur (thigh bone) This will give you an accurate date. All babies do grow differently even in the womb, however this is very accurate. Congrats!!!

EDIT: according to my LMP i was due on the 8th. After my ultrasound my "new" due date is the 1st. If you are 100% sure about you LMP they will only change your due date if it's more than a week one way or the other. (my OB does anyhow) Just because your due date is approximate.

However, as your pregnancy progresses your due date can change several times based upon baby's development. It is true babys can develop by the book or be really ahead of behind. They changed my due date from the 24th to the 26th to back to the 24th based upon her development. The 24th is actually 40 weeks according to my lmp..

your belly has nothing to do with how far along you are b.c bellies are all different i look about your size and im 24 weeks... but anyways your due date will possibly change once they do the ultrasound based onthe measurements they get from yor baby! yes every baby develops differently and at different times but there are major tell tale signs that will let the doc know how far along you really are!! mine first due date was nov 30th b/c of my LMP then dec 12 b.c of my fist ultrasound and now dec 10!!! good luck!

Okay, thats helpful. Even though they changed your due date it was only by a few days anyway so it's probably just best to stick with the original due date anyway.

Ugh that makes me sad that I'm as big as you at 24 weeks. EVERYONE has said that to me. I grow SOOO much in such a short period of time. But yet I've barely gained any weight. Haha. If you grow fast in the beginning does it mean you'll slow down towards the end or is that just me wishing that were true?

Yeah I am for sure on my period causae it's been straight to the HOUR regular which is sad. Haha. I was just curious because of how big I am but I know that really has nothing to do with anything.

well they chnged mine from the 30th to the 24th due to me never having a period to go by when i got pregnant (i didnt get my period at all after having Edison and i got pregnant soon after with Tai) well they measured is size and it flipped between the 24th and 30th so they justhad me have my c-section at 39 weeks...

im sorry i didnt mean to make you feel bad!!  bout your question on growing bellies theres no real answer! so far all of my growing has been gradual exept the boobies those grew right away but have slowed down some.... my mom keeps tellin gme that the last two months will be when i blow up!! but who know i mean we all have different genes different growing patterns so we'll see and dont feel bad your belly looks adorable!!! at least youlook prego theres still times when people think im just fat and have a really bad case of the beer bellies!!! lol!!!

based on my LMP, my due date would have been November 11th, which sounds more accurate to me since I know when I did the dids. =P
Buuut - after the ultrasound, they changed it to December 24th.
That's a big jump. I guess I'll just have to wait it out and see which one wins!

You didn't make me feel bad I just feel so huge compared to other people who are around the same weeks as I am!

My due date isn't based off my LMP. I was supposed to be due on Jan 27, but at 11 weeks my doctor couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler. He set me up for an ultrasound to make sure everything was ok. They couldn't get me in until I was 12 weeks and6 days. The ultrsound measured my baby at 10 weeks and 4 days. Needless to say, they pushed my due date back to Feb 12. I was kind of disappointed, but so glad that the baby was okay.

Don't feel bad...I'm 15 weeks, and I am showing big time!! Everyone is different.

I do not want my due date pushed back I will cry. Haha. I go on September 22nd for my gender ultrasound so I am just hoping it goes perfectly & the baby has his/her legs spread!!
