Pretty bad, but worse if you go through labor, first, because you work those muscles and THEN get them cut open.

But if you have a nice dr, they will give you pain meds safe for the baby. They help.

And agreed, worth it to have a healthy baby.

Mine wasn't that bad.

It is pretty painful though. I doubled up on meds.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Mine was after full labor and 5 hours of pushing   so it sucked. Are you having another one, or going for a VBAC? I think I want to try for a VBAC with my next.

I have had two c-sections-the first one was after 20 hours of labor and it was horrible. The second was a scheduled c-section and I bounced back very quickly. I only took my pain meds for about 3 days after I got home.

3 hours of pushing + emergency c-section = death!. the pain of a swollen crotch, plus feeling like yur stomach is tearing open.

But realy, after the pains meds, I was up and walking three days later. It hurt, but not as bad as without meds. TAKE THEM. I refused to at first, and it was hell.

i am a major baby i have zero pain tolerance i mean zero but recovery was soooo not as bad as i thought it would be .. i took my pain meds faithfully and ibuprofen i think that helped alot you hear people saying they didnt take theirs but i did even if i wasnt in pain cause its easier to take it then to wait til you are in pain and have to wait for them to kick in and keep moving i was up walking 6 hrs after mine it was a little uncomfortable at first but the more you move the better im 2 weeks pp and i feel great ...i was a bit sore for about the first week but of course you are going to be sore you just had major abdominal surgery... dont worry momma you will be fine... oh and for the first week or so i always always put a pillow behind me when i sat done and sometimes i sat on top of one too it really really really helps you to get in and out of chairs ( or couches)comfortabley!!!!!

I have had two and I thought they weren't that bad. I though it was way worse getting my gallbladder out! I made myself get up and walk though. After both sections I didn't take anything except ibuprofen and I am a whimp. I just hate the way the other pain meds make me feel and I didn't really need them! Also with my second I asked my doctor to go home a day early!

It took a LOT of pondering ,but I finally decided on a VBAC and cancelled the date for my repeat section. They had to make sure she wasn't going to be too big (DD was 8lbs 5oz on her due date), but she isn't, so I'm going to give it a try. I hate the thought of not being able to play with DD for so long afterwards, and I'd like to have the experience. I was enduced with DD for my section b/c of high bp, and after 8 hours of active labor, finally got an epidural, but her cord was being compressed after my water broke so they had to do an emergency section. Scary, but thankfully she is ok with no problems. If you want a VBAC next time, I would wait a while to get pregnant again just so there's less risks. I was borderline VBAC because both births are only about 19 months apart.

Good luck! Happy birth thoughts going your way. That is why I don't want another c-section. I hated that my son was 3 hours old before I could hold and nurse him

Thanks for the happy thoughts. I'm hoping all goes well this time around. I think DD was about an hour old by the time I got to hold her, but right after they cleaned her off in the OR, DH held her next to me for a while until they had to take her to do all those things that they do (I know, I sound so educated on what tests and procedures they performed on her!).

My son was in special care for 48 hours is why it was so long for me. I had a fever of 104 by the time he was born so they watched him to be on the precautionary side. Are you going to be induced or natural> Sorry so many questions, I'm curious lol
