Baby Fever

posted 22nd Aug
My son was running a fever this morning (101.6), I gave him tylenol and it went down to 100.1 so I took him to daycare. Then they called me about 9-10ish and said they just wanted to let me know it was 100.8. So I made an appt with his doctor to check for a possible ear infection. The at 1230 they called again and it was now 103.5!! So I left work and picked him up about 130 and his appt was at 220, I brought him home to feed him b/c he'd only taken 4 oz since 630. Right before we left I took his temp and it was 102.4 then when the tech took his temp with that stupid little head thing like 20 min later it read 100.2 so then the doc wasn't consered b/c it "went down" well that was about 2 hours ago and we just took it again and its 103.4 Rectal. we gave his some tylenol. Do you guys think if it doesn't go down by tonight I should take him to the ER?

Is the tylenol helping? Rectal temperatures usually average a degree or so higher. If the tylenol alone doesn't help I would try alternating tylenol and motrin. (If he is older than 6 months). Also try to get him to drink more. If he isn't drinking and the combination of medicines don't help then I would take him to the ER to be on the safe side.

Nevermind, he's not six months yet, so you can't use Motrin.

I would just take him to the ER now a temp of 103 is bad for anyone. And tell them the head one isnt reading right make them do a rectal temp. I dont really trust the head ones. And he will get dehydrated if hes not eating i would just take him better to be safe than sorry esp if he is just laying there not really playing or moving too much. I would just take him in Trust me cause someone on here didnt take her child in when they were running 103 and they waited so long the baby ended up in the hospital for a few days!!!

We just gave him tylenol at 430. Why can't babies younger than six months have motrin? Just curious.
