Advice??

posted 22nd Aug
Ye4sterday I was doing the payroll for my hubby's business and he was watching our 3 girls. My oldest is 9-1/2. He told her she could ride her bike around the block. I don't have a problem with that, but after I was done I went to go outside and see everyone. My oldest daughter was sitting at the bottom of the steps and she looked upset. I said what is the problem...I figured she had just been fighting with one of the other girls...but she told me she had run into the neighbor with her bike because she hadn't b een watching where she was going. I know she didn't intetnionally run into him, but we had gone out earlier and she had ridden her bike. The whole time we were out she was all over the place on her bike and too busy looking at the ground, the wheels, the pedals and everything else to pay attention to how she was riding her bike. I am mad at her that once again she wasn't watching where she was going. The guy yelled at her and then apologizerd for yelling at her. She told me she started crying, but said sorry then just rode home. After talking with her again this morning she told me she had seen him walking down the road do she knew he was there, but then still didn't bother to pay attention and ended up riding intot he back of him. I told her thankfully it wasn't one ofhis little girls because they could have really been hurt and thankfully it wasn't a car going the other way because SHE could have been seriously injured. I then told her she will need to do some more preacticing around the house and the yard before she goes around the block again. Now my querstion is should I take her back to the neighbors and apologize again and explain that she hadn't been watching where she was going...as I know her apology the first time probably wasn't very good and filled with tears....or just leave it as it is?? My husband says just leave it as it is, but I told her I feel she should go back without all the tears and just explain how sorry she is and that she will be more careful from now on.

Sorry so long.

I think she needs more supervision but just leave it and keep an eye on her by going with her.

I think she sounded genuinely contrite and unless the neighbor is a good friend just leave it alone.Good for you guys for dealing with it so promptly and well.

yeah i told her she will have to keep it to around the house and the park right next door to the house where we can watch her and hse has to practice her road skills a bit more before she is allowed to go around the block by herself again. She is one of the few that is rarely aloowed to do anything by herself here. We live in a very small community...only 2000 peolpe in the whole community and it seems a lot of her friends are aloowed to go and do things all over town so the samll little blcok she goes around doesn';t seem like too much of a big deal to her, but i guess practice makes perfect!!
