Helping a 5 year old & other stuff...

I got the idea to ask you girls when I read another post. My little brother is 5 years old and just started kindergarten. He has had no pre-school and had never even knew what the alphabet was until he started school like a week ago. This itself is a whole other story that I will tell you at the end of the post. But he gets 8 letters a week that he has to learn to say and write. He also has to learn to write his name. He is not doing so well what can I do to help him. I have bought workbooks that allow them to like trace them, I have made my own worksheets, I have made him write them 5 times, and other things. Yet when he gets to school he doesn't do so well. His teacher keeps sending notes home saying he needs a lot of work on his letters. His mom won't do anything to help him at all, it's all on me. What do I do???


Ok, now that I wrote out my concern. My dad met Belinda (my brother's mom) about 7 years ago. She already had two kids. She was really heavy into meth. She got my dad into doing it also.They eventually had my brother Logan. Well he eventually left her for yet another girl into meth, except this time she got him into making it. Well long story short my dad is no sitting in prison for the next 6 years for dealing meth. Well, one thing is Belinda (my brother's mom) is completely off meth. Which I am proud of but she just doesn't take care of my brother. She lets him ride his bike all around the apartment complex which is right by a very busy road. I live in the same apartment complex as her. Once, she even had to call the cops cause she couldn't find him and they found him about 5 blocks away on his bike. She doesn't help him do any homework. He has already missed 2 days and this is his second week of school. The worst is her house is disguisting (sp?) It's really really bad. There is food sitting everywhere and it stinks sooo bad. I am fully capable of raising my little brother. I bought him $200 in school clothes this year and all of his school supplies cause she doesn't have any money. I want to call CPS but I'm scared they won't let me have him cause I'm only 19. I'm also worried about where are other two kids will go. I have no idea what to do about the situation. Any advice on this would be great also.

Have you talked to her about this? Like in a very serious tone? Because school authorities will eventually become suspicious if he is constantly missing school without legitimate reasons. I would help out with his homework any way you can, if I were you, and it looks like you are trying.

Do you have any other competent relatives who could help out with the kids if it did turn out to be CPS case?

I don't really have much family. My mom is in no situation to help. My dad is in prison and that affects my little brother a lot cause they were close. I know I can take care of my little brother but I can't take care of the other two and I think there aunt would take them (there dad is also in jail for making meth)but then I always think about what if she can't and they end up in some home and then I would feel like crap. I have talked to her about it, I've tried to help her clean her house and keep it that way, and I take her places cause she doesn't have a job. She just doesn't change. I just don't know what to do. I would go insane if I called CPS and because I'm young (19) they wouldn't let me have him or something.

They may give you a hard time because you're so young and have your own child. I don't know what else to tell you hon. Good luck.
