baby doctor

well im trying to pick a pediatrician for my son but one of the offices i called the doctor doesnt make hospital visits so she wouldnt come see my son when hes born in the hospital? and i asked them if i used her as my pediatrician for my son do i need to tell them my name or something so i can be a new patient they are like no just call us when your son is born. but that just seems a little risky what if they arent accepting new patients anymore. i have another doctor i might like to use but not sure yet. also did any of yall think it was worth it to go and meet the doctor before you decided???

Well I am not speaking from experience but I asked a coworker aboutit and she went tomutliplepediatrician just to feel him out. You know how some docters have know it all attitude and treat you like you don't know anything. Well she just wanted to make sure that who ever he was he wasn't pushy or a smart ass. She wan't to make sure she was comfortable with him and that they could make decision about HER child together. I think it makes alot of sense and I plan on doing the same.

I don't know how it is there but with mine I had both my daughters in a different city. The hospital where my doctor is has peditricians that they assign to your baby when he/she is born. With my first daughter I though I had to keep going to that dr but I didn't really like him so I ended up trading. With this baby my peditrician told me to just call and schedule a two week appt. The doctor that saw my daughter at the hospital was good but I like my peditrician so I take her there, but the doctor at the hospital said I was welcome to keep bringing her to his office and I would have if it wasn;t so far to drive. SO you may want to check with the hospital what doctors they have and chat with them.

It is also good to check with friends//family to get a feel for doctors that others like. Popularity is a good sign!! 

Definately meet the doc. Also ask around to find out who is the best in the area (when you are standing in line at the grocery store and see some kids, family members, friends, also ask the hosp who they recommend.). If they want you to call after the baby is born, then they probably not worried about filling up. I got lucky and went with my SIL's pedi and he was great and at the time he was not accepting new patients because he was about to retire in the next 10 yrs, but because my family referred me to him he took my daughter. The same thing happened though they didn't take my name they said to call when the baby was born and to use the house pedi at the hosp.

when i went on the hospital tour they said they have oncall doctors there but you dont use those doctors afterwards they are apart of the hospital staff im guessing. they would rather you have a peditrician already picked out.

if i didnt have insurance that i could only pick from a small amount of doctors and when i say small amount theres five doctors. i was going to use my younger brothers pediatrician but they dont accept my insurance!
