Ear infections.... is this right??

My son was just diagnosed with his first ear infection. He is 5 months old and 20 lbs. The Dr. prescribed Amoxicillin,,, 5mL 2 daily. That seems like an awful lot to me considering he oly gets 1mL of tylenol... so have your infants had an ear infection and were prescribed that much, or does that sound like too much to you too?

that sounds like what Megan was prescribed, but I'd have to find the bottle, IDK if I still have it, I'll go look.

No, that's not right, my oldest has a 5ml bottle in there from her strep throat back in the spring, and she's only supposed to get 1 teaspoon, and she's 7. I must have thrown Megan's bottle away though b/c she finished hers. Sorry I'm not more help.

What type of dosage is it?

Like is it 125 mg?

the bottle says 400mg/5mL total amount in the bottle is 100mL... and they said 5mL 2 times a day... that sounds like way too much... again not sure though

hayleigh is on the same medicine for her ear infection and she only gets 2ml twice a day... she is 9 months old and 17lbs.. i would call your Dr. and have them recheck the dosage!

If the total amount is just 100mL, I wouldn't be worried.

You can call the doctor back and check though.

Awwe, thank you, and that's so neat!! I've heard of a lot of Megan Elizabeth's since I named her, I thought it flowed well....guess a bunch of other people did too. hehe. But that sounds like a lot of meds. It sounds like the same bottle as Emilee's but her's says 1 teaspoon 2 x's a day. Maybe a 5ml is the same as a teaspoon???? I'm no good w/ measurements.

5mL is almost the same... just a tad more than 1 tsp

Ok, so I just called the Dr. back at the ER... She said it was right... that is was "a new standard for children in daycare" (I work at the daycare, so both of us are sick.. icky!)
