Tips for First-time Moms

posted 21st Aug
Everyone share your tips and helpful experiences for the first-time moms!!
We all know how hard it is bringing your first newborn home so I thought it'd be a good idea to share tips that helped us in taking care of our babies and figuring out what they need.

I'm a very new mommy. My daughter is 3 weeks old but I have found out a couple things that have helped me out a lot!

-If you notice while breastfeeding(or bottle feeding) that your baby is being really fussy or waving their arms around or even whining, they most likely need to burp.
I've noticed Emmie doing this for a while while I'm nursing her but couldn't figure out what was wrong because she was still noticeably hungry. So, recently when she was being really fussy at the breast, I took her off and sat her up and started patting her back and she let out a huge burp. Now, whenever I notice her doing this, I pat her back and she always burps and then goes back to eating.

That's all I can think of for now but share yours while I think of more!

get them on a schedule as soon as possible! It helps get them to sleep through the night sooner....at least I think it helped! Since my son is 8wks and sleeping 7hours I think we did a pretty good job!

Good question! LOL I was shocked myself the first time it happened. He's a good baby but he rarely naps during the day. That can be good or bad. For me it's bad because he wants to constently be help when he's awake! It does help him sleep more at night though.

You're not supposed to give cereal in bottles unless recommended by your doctor.

Don't be afraid!

I was terrified to do anything when Novali was born. Seriously, I needed people to help me put a hat on her. I've realized quickly that if you are uneasy, so is your baby.

cereal in the bottle may help them sleep at night but its a hard habbit to break once u want to spoon feed.

I got another one for breastfeeding moms.

Lying on your side while nursing is a LIFESAVER. At night, it saves you from backaches other than sitting up in your bed and you can still half-sleep while nursing. I barely lose any sleep now!

Realize that any emotions you are having after the baby is born within the first couple weeks is normal! Of course if you want to harm yourself or the baby this isn't normal! But feeling overwhelmed, stressed, exhausted, overjoyed, nervous, anxious, excited, happy, etc.... this is normal! And you will cry over silly things, that is ok too! You will get through it and have faith in yourself that you can do it! Enjoy it while you can because they grow up too fast!

I gave Novali cereal before asking my doctor and everything was fine.

arnt you afraid of rolling over on her and suffocating her.... you might be way too tired one night and not wake up to her!!!
