How to tell my best friend I am pregnant

Okay heres the story. My best friend (aside from my husband) has some issues as a dad. It's not that he's a bad dad, but his first child was stillborn, and his second child born in July is held by his massively controlling ex that just threw him out to move back to Ohio.

He is very hurt, it's like losing his second child. Well we have one child, and he knows we were trying for another. I just feel like I would hurt his feelings sharing my good news when he is so down. But I don't want to wait until its too late, or he finds out on his own which might hurt his feelings too. I mean, I know he will be happy for me, but me being I am afraid my being pregnant again will only remind him of his situation.

I feel bad that his new daughter is on the other side of the country, and granted the mom might move back to Ohio. (Shes very fickle) I just don't want him to be hurt. Not by her, and especially not by me. What would you all do?

maybe you should give him a little more credit. He may just be super happy for you because you wanted this.
Otherwise explain to him that you're not telling him to hurt him or that you hope this doesn't make him feel like you're rubbing anything in.

awwwe i feel so sorry for your friend. why doesnt he push for visitation with his daughter? and as for your blessed new, if he is a good friend he will be happy for you, especially if he knows you are trying, it shouldnt be that shocking. maybe if he comes over one day, just have some new baby outfits in a shopping bag and say we went shopping last night, wanna see what we got? and show him the outfits?

i would tell him as soon as possible... im sure he would be upset if he found out from someone else..

plus if you are so close then im sure he will be nothing but happy for you.

I don't know how into the whole "godparents" thing you are, but you could tell him and ask him to be the godfather, that way he can feel like he's not lost everything. It's a big honor to some people.

Its bound to happen sooner or later. He is going to have to deal with his issues one way or another, that sounded really mean im sry. I would just let him know, that’s how I did with my cousin after she had to deliver a little boy that was still born. She was happy for me but I know she was hurting inside but she said later that she needed to deal with it and she hadn’t dealt with it until I told her I was pregnant

Honestly just come out and tell him. If you let him find out by someone else he's going to be extremely hurt. If he's your best friend he will be happy for you, but that doesn't mean it won't bring up some bad memories for him. You can't control how he's going to react but you definitely should tell him before he hears it through the grape vine. Chances are he's going to be extremely happy for you, that's what best friends are for :]]

Thats a good point.. In our beliefs they aren't "godparents" but there are similar. Thanks guys, you helped a lot. I am sure he will be ok, he's just a real sensitive guy.

I swear one day he's gonna tell me he's gay lol. I love him to pieces though, I don't know what I'd do without him in my life. He's better than any girl best friend I have ever had

Bahahaha, "I smell lemons" is actually an inside joke for us... It's a loooong story stemming back from freshmen year of highschool.
