3 month old feeding pattern???

posted 21st Aug
help I have a 3 month old baby boy, who is breastfed, however I thought by now we would be in a routine of such, or at least sleeping 4 hours, but no he feeds whenever he wants throughout the day and at night hes first sleep is 3 hours then after that hesup every 1 n half two hours, its a killer, originally I had masses of milk, always leaking and spurting like a hose pipe however recently I've become a bit saggy!!! the last week I 've given him formula at his last feed but it dosnt seem to make much difference. My beautiful boy has to go into hospital shortly for an operation and its worrying me that he cant go too long without eating and I wanna build him up at little more, help please xx
also wanted to add that he only sleeps for 20 minutes 3 to 4 times in the day??

Wow, that sounds exactly like my daughter word for word!I dont have any suggestions for you, but i hope it helps to know your not the only one who has had this problem, and in my opinion it is normal. She still does not sleep much. No nap, goes to sleep around 9, and gets up at 7-8. I guess some kids just need more sleep than others.

My 3 month old is formula-fed, so her feeding pattern is a bit longer, but goes something like this: 6 am, 9am, 1pm, 5 pm (give or take some time on either side, for example, sometimes she eats her lunch at noon and dinner at 4:30, etc.). She is a catnapper like yours though -- rarely sleeps longer than 30 minutes at a stretch during the day. THe ped told me this is completely normal, and actually more common than the "2 long naps" we would expect. She probably takes about 4-5 catnaps a day unless we are in the car or something, in which case, she'll sleep more. At night, she sleeps through - 6:30/7:00pm until 6 the following morning (yesterday it was 5am though!).
