that you can't spoil a baby when they are small by holding them but I think they might be wrong...
Anthony will cry so hard when he is put down and have actual tears coming from his eyes and once I pick him up he stops like nothing ever happened lol Smart little man

It depends on the age. For the first four months or soI would say comfort them when they need it. After that, they need to learn to soothe themselves a little.

I don't think you can spoil in the classic sense, but I do believe they realize that holding is comfortable, and if they cry you pick them up. They are way smarter than they get credit for! My daughter went through this too. She was colicky early on, so we did a LOT of holding. It took a while to break her out of it -- maybe at 2.5 months when she started noticing more things and playing more, she wasn't as clingy. She's 3 months now and still has her "hold me" moments, which is totally fine, but we were able to teach her to play on her mat, bouncy, etc. for a spell. When she fusses, we move her to a new place to give her a change of scenery. My Mom was the one who got her to do it. She surrounded her with toys and things to look at, and after a couple of days, she was totally into her stuff and didn't need to be held as much.

yeah I think Anthony is a bit colicy (sp?) so I have to do a lot of holding but I try to move him to his bouncer or swing or his bobby pillow sometimes it work but other times he just wants to be held. I just don't like it once he falls asleep in my arms because once I try to put him down he wakes back up. I am sure he will grow out of it he just needs more time
