Kaiser sucks and they would let me die! Anyone else have Kai

posted 20th Aug
Soo I have been very sick and it seems to have gotten worse in the past week. Yesterday I could not hold any type of liquid down for over 24hrs and I really thought about going to the ER because at one point I felt as if I was going to die. Well today I went to get my regular everyday B6 shot (it's supposed to help with the nausia) and I talked to an advice nurse. I have never been to the ER having Kaiser insurance, you can not just go to the ER, you have to call the call center # first to see if you can go. Well the call center is closed after 5pm so I wanted to know if something were to happen after those hours, wether I get dehydrated or later on see bleeding or have complications what shouldI do. Well they had no answer for me and she just said to "Wait it out until 8am when the call center opens." Then she says that the ER is too expensive for that. Umm hello I could be dead or something happen to the baby by that time! I am also taking Reglan and getting B6 shots to help with my morning (all day) sickness and I asked if there was something else that I could be prescribed and they gave me supositories(sp?) Nothing else... Ughh
Soo does anyone else have Kaiser? Have they taken good care of you? Have you gone to the ER with this insurance before?

Oh wow, I don't know why they told you that. I've had Kaiser for over 2 years now and I love it. Were always in the ER for something too and I've never had to call anybody to tell them were coming in. You should call and ask to speak to someone else. That doesn't sound right to me.

They even told me that when I go into labor I will have to call them... I mean am I really going to think about that at that time? It really upset me and made me feel alone because I already felt awful and then for them to tell me to wiat stuff out just really irked me...

I don't see how that is even legal. The ER is for exactly what it says, emergency services, so I don't see how they could even legally deny you services. Have you ever gone on their website, and tried to read up on their policies? If you started having complications, and they tell you that you have to wait until the call center opens up, that is putting themselves at liability of a law suit. They are not doctors, so they have no legal standing to be able to diagnose you over the phone and tell you whether or not you qualify for emergency services. I would see what you can find out through their policies, and then call and ask to speak to a manager or something.

Good luck. I'm no lawyer, but that really just doesn't sound legal. What if someone was having chest pains or something, and thought they couldn't go to the hospital, because it wasn't pre-approved. If anything happened to them, they would be in for a hell of a law suit. I don't have Kaiser, but I know with my insurance some things need to be pre-approved, but def not ER visists. Thats what co-pays and deductibles are for. My Dr. sent me over for IV fluids, to the ambulatory center at the hospital, so I didn't have to sit through the ER, they just faxed orders oever. They had to call my insurance and approve it for that... But I think someone in the insurance company you were talking to probably has their head up their ass....
let us know what you find out...

I could not believe that she told me the ER is too expensive. I mean isn't that why I pay my insurance every month so that I only worry about my $100 deductible... I don't care if it's expensive for the insurance company they get enough of my money and everyone else's... Ugh

When I went into labor with my daughter I didn't have to call them, I just went. I went alot while I was pregnant too for my migraines and other probs. Plus with 3 kids, 1 of them is always getting sick or something so we go if urgent care is closed. I've never had a problem though with them denying me or telling me to call some center.
