prometrium while pregnant????

ok so for those of you who dont know i am 7 wks pregnant. I have had 2 m/c in the past year, and today i went for my 1st prenatal appt. he said that everything looked good, but gave me a Rx for prometrium and said that it was my choice rather or not to take it. It is not guarenteed to save the pregnancy, but he said that some Dr. believe that it could help. Also in some cases it may not help at all. He alos mentioned that he may cause my body to hold onto a pregnacy that is not completley normal. So i am kind of on the fence about taking it and was wondering if any of you have taken it before or know of someone who has taken it and what the results were. Thanks girls.

I don't know anything about prometrium...sorry. But I just wanted to say that I am sooooo sorry that you have had to bear the loss of 2 babies.

I'm sure you know this already...but I am on prometrium! I am on it CD14-28 and then once I get my bfp I will be on it thru week 12. I m/c last time due to low progesterone. I say there's no harm in taking it, plus we all know that this little one is going to stick .  

Hey, congrats on baby bean  

I was given progesterone with the twins to stop me m/c them bcos of my 4 others. They gave me the pessaries first (vag supp) and then once dd passed away they gave me weekly shots to help keep her body in. I think progesterone is a really good idea for the first tri if you're at risk from m/c. I dont think it can hurt... i heard there is like a 1-3% risk of something for male babies but i wouldnt worry. I think you should do whatever you can to ensure that lil bean stays with you! good luck mama

yeah he told me that i would be taking it until wks 12 if i decided to take it. it is 100mg twice a day. the only thing that has me on the fence is that he said the part that it may make me keep a pregnacy that nature intended to be passed  And that after my last m/c we didnt test my levels so i dont know it they were low or not. Im just so confused and i have been having lots of sypmtoms and he said that is a good thing.

I would take it. My doc gave it to me after my first mc and while I was pregnant this last time (also ended in mc). Aftermy first mc the doc told me to stay onit and it helps build up the lining to makeit more 'sticky' for an egg toimplant. I did get pregant with my daughterabout 9 months after...This last timemy levels were rising just not what the docwanted to see so better safe than sorryhe put me on it again. Unfortunatly it didn't help what was already happening and we had another. BUT I did get pregnant the MONTH after my D&C and should see this little man in a few days. SO long story short, I say take it. It doesn't hurt to try!

also i have heard that it tends to make your nasuea worse and makes u more tired and i have atlready been having bad all day sickness. is this true?

Hmmm...well, what are your levels now? Have they tested them yet? My doctor knew my levels were too low as early as week 6, but by then it was too late.

i took prometrium the first 3 months. I am now 21 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy.

that is what i asked him if he was going to test them now to see what they were and he said no b/c the levles vary so much for every women that it is not accurate. he said that they could come back low and everythin be normal or they could come back high and something be wrong. So that is why im so confused b/c i dont know if i really need it or not. My body may be producing enough by itself

Yes one previous m/c 5 years ago. He didn't prescribe it to me though until my blood tests showed a lower progesterone level.
