When "Time Out" loses it's effect

posted 20th Aug
I am completely run down & frustrated with my 2.5 year old daughter.
T.O's don't affect her, she just sits on the stairs & goofs around with anything she can find, pees on the floor or hits the walls.

I am completely against violent forms of discipline.
What else can I do to teach her a lesson?!?!

Do you just tell her to go to timeout, or do you explain to her why she is in there? I was a daycare provider for 4.5 years, and I was mainly dealing with two's and three's. Usually it helps to let them know why they are there, instead of just sitting them there. As for the acting out, let them know that there will be more consequences for those actions as well.

Do you react when she acts out? Take away anything she could play with. Put a diaper on her if she is going to pee. (Though she can probably figure out how to take that off I guess) Tell her what she did wrong, why she's being punished, how long it will last, and then ignore her. Don't respond to anything she does (unless she's physically ill or hurts herself) she's probably continuing to do it because she's getting a reaction out of you. That's pretty much the only idea I have..

What kind of consequences would affect her though?

Aww, don't show your frustration, kids pick up on things like this, even at this age, just try to be as calm as you can. No yelling or screaming, try to get on eye level with them, kids wont listen if they have to look all the way up to you... Good Luck.
