Epidural ?

posted 20th Aug
I had a vaginal birth with my son and my epidural didn't really work. I am having a c-section this time because I had a REALLY hard time having my son and got tore up really bad. I am just wondering about the csection epidural. Is it stronger? I am so worried it's not going to work and I'm going to feel the csection happen.

That happened to me too. My epi did not work at all. I dont think they do it the same way though. they would never let you feel a c section, relax :-)

Yeah, im pretty sure they do something a lil different with c-sections. I saw it on a baby story last week. The most your supposed to feel is a lil pressure or tugging.

My bestfriend had an emergency c/s and they did 3 spinal blocks because she said she could still feel it. Don't worry, a c-section is considered a pretty major surgery and I'm sure they aren't going to make you feel any of it...just relax.

They give you a spinal when u have a C-section. Will not cut until u are completely numbed.

I was screaming to up my dosage when I thought I was having a vaginal, so I felt my contractions too. When I went to have my csection done last minute they gave me something alot stronger. I only felt pressure and when they were sewing me up.

since this is a scheduled c-section, they'll likely give you a spinal. It doesn't last as long (only about 3 hours or so, but it blocks out more feeling and goes in deeper than an epi. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. They'll make sure you don't feel anything (except you will feel pressure and tugging as they baby is actually coming out...they can't stop that from happening). Also, the anesthesiologist will be in there the whole time monitoring you so don't worry.

Whats the difference between a spinal and epi? Are spinals more painful?
