My sister is having a c-section on Monday and they told her she would be there until  Thursday.  They also told her her spinal tap would be in until the next day but she would be able to hold the baby right away.

I had a c section back in may, and it wasn't bad at all, I would sooo do it again.
I didn't get to hold my baby for a few hours after because I was hemmoraging, and I needed special care. The next day was a bitch, I will not lie. They took out the catheter and made me get up to go to the bathroom I would hold it for so long it would push against where my incision was and hurt like a bitch. I would only get up if they gave me percocets. And I stayed from Tuesday until Friday. Really, don't worry they aren't that bad.

1. I got to hold her about an hour and a half after she was born.
2. I personally got a spinal tap before && was completely awake and aware of everything going on. They gave me a morphine drip afterwards where I could just push the button when I needed it, but I never used it. I really wasn't in much pain. After the first day, they gave me Ibprofen(sp?) and Loratab when needed.
3. The next day I could barely move, but its best to get up and walk around. You'll heal faster. You'll definately need help taking care of the little one for about the first week.
4. 5 days, 4 nights.

Honestly, my C-section was not bad at all! They gave me a spinal block (which based on what people say about epidurals - was way easier. I didn't even feel it going in!) and I was able to hold my daughter as soon as the surgery was done and they wheeled me into recovery. (I would say about 20 minutes later or so.) I could see the baby the ENTIRE time, though. It took almost that whole time to clean her up anyway.

The medicine wore off a few hours afterword, but they gave me a morphine drip so there really wasn't any pain - when the morphine stopped, however, the nurses FORGOT to give me my Darvocet, so the pain was pretty intense when I was moving around. If I was just laying still, there wasn't any pain. Once they gave me the pain meds, I was up walking around and the pain was muted. I have to say that the time it hurt the worst (TMI) was when I had to sit down on the toilet to go potty. The sitting motion hurt - even with the medicine. That being said, it was not near as bad as people made it out to be.

I delievered Adrianna on June 12th and was able to go home on June 15th - feeling just fine, I might add.

Don't be scared! It really was an amazing experience and the c-section was a blessing by the time it came. I'm actually excited to know that the next time, I can schedule one and have it done - without pitocin, contractions, playing the weighting game, cervix checks, etc.

How Long After Did You Get To Hold Your Baby?

I'd say at least an hr. It goes by quickly.

What Drugs Did They Give You Before Or After (I Really Dont Wanna Be Out Of It)

If you want to be awake they just numb you an you won't fell a thing. It's really not as bad as it sounds. After they give you meds through your i.v an you will have a little button you can push every so often if you need more.

Was The Next Day Really Bad (Mike Has To Go Back To Work The Day After She Is Born)

No, Not so bad. But you should have someone stay with you.

How Many Nights And Days Did You Have To Stay??
3 days 2 nights. An if your ready to go home the 2nd day they'll let you. It just depends on how your doing.

Good Luck! If you don't mind me asking, Why do you have to have a c-section?

I had one and it was not that bad really. I got to hold the baby as soon as they were done stiching me(cause your arms are tied down)but my husband got to hold him immediatly so I got to see him and talk to him etc while they were doing that. I got a regular epidural so just my lower half was numb they wont knock you out The next day is bad but I was up and moving around which helps you heal faster. I had him on wed and was discharged on sunday. you will need to have a low bed at home mine isnt so i had to sleep on the couch for a week because I could not lift mysellf into the bed. The worst part is to not lift anything over 10lsb for 8 weeks so you cant even use a babycarrier cause they are too heavy

i had a c-sect. they tried inducing my labor first so i was put on all kinds of drugs, cervidil, pitocen, antibiotics, pain meds in my iv, and an epi. needless to say i was a drugged out mess!!! by the time they got me into the or and had given me another epi for the surgery i pretty much was knocked out. they said i was wake for the whole thing and talking, but i dont remember any of it   and i didnt get to hold my daughter for about 3 hours afterwards. i dont even remember seeing her after they cut her out of me.
my recovery sucked too. i got a skin infection and had to say in the hospital for a couple extra days so i was there for a total of 6 days. i was able to get up and start walking around by the next day tho so that wasnt too bad. they gave me percoset and ibprofin for the pain.
sorry my story really sucks and probly didnt make you feel any better, but most people have a much easier time with it than me.

I had him at 5.12pm, didn't hold him until almost 8.30...they said it was because of shift change...we were pissed!! I stayed awake during mine, couldn't feel a thing. I stayed at the hospital 3 nights, 4 days. I also has some complications though. I had abnormal swelling everywhere which they didn't know the source, I also didn't eat until right before I was discharged and my lower abdomen was extremely sore and I got ALOT of gas that wouldn't pass.....it's incredible how much that hurts. They tried ibuprophen (sp) which I kept throwing up, because of no food. Also, the anesthesia stayed in my chest for a while...and they tell you that coughing helps. I got up and walked the next day once. Twice the following and a little more each day. It's been a month and I still can't stand for too long. I would try to get someone to stay with you as much as possible. It's hard to take care of a baby from the couch, lol.

Chelsea, congrats on being a mom! I had an unplaneed C-section so it was more unexpected for me.

Answer 1: I kissed my baby but did not hold him because I was really out of it by then, from the exhaustion of 18 hours of labor prior and the effects of the medication; I could barely open my eyes after the surgery was done, so I told the nurses to please take my baby to the nursery and take care of him till I wake up.

Answer 2: I don't know the names of the drugs. The ones the give you during the surgery should not put you out. You will be aware of your surroundings but you won't feel the pain of the incision, so there is little worry there. You will even hear your baby's first cry. They gave me painkillers after the surgery for the incision while you are at the hospital, so you won't feel the after-effect either.

Answer 3: For me, the next day was bad in terms on the exhaustion compounded by the side-effects of the drugs. I had severe itching in my legs and my feet was so swollen, I could barely walk. This went on for about 1 month after the baby was born. Although I did not believe the nurses at first, they do eventually go away. I hope you will not experience that, but it is merely an annoyance.

Answer 4. 2 nights/3days. So take full advantage of your stay at the hospital. The nurses at the hospital were I delivered were angels, and they would come in to make sure that I was OK all the time. At the beginning, I thought I could be supermom and do everything on the get go. When one of the nurses came to check on me the first night, she was shocked to learn that I had not slept because my baby kept waking up and crying almost every hour or so. So, she insisted that I get some rest while she took care of the baby in the nursery. From then on, I would ask for help whenever I needed it. It is so important that you rest during your stay at the hospital because you will need you energy to take care of baby when you get home.

Finally, don't be stressed out about the operation. In general, it is safe and your doctors know what they are doing.
