Craple Cap question--oil aint working!

posted 20th Aug
So two things, really. Firstly, I feel like the worlds worst Mama right now. I was rushing around the house this morning trying to get ready to go. On the way to the sitters I keep thinking, "I've forgotten something, I know it. But I have everything. What can I be missing?" Right about then Chloe wakes up and is screaming at the top of her little lungs because she's starving. I keep saying, "Chloe just 5 more minutes and we're there, and then she can feed you. Sweety, I'm sorry I can't pull over on the side of the freeway and feed you. If I did we'd get side swiped by a truck. Just 4 more minutes now!" We get to the sitters house and I cuddle her for a moment and then I have to run. I look at my watch and realize that I have a meeting with management in 2 minutes, and it takes me 5 to get to work from the sitters. I pull into the parking lot and the sitter calls me, "Um, were you planning on feeding her today?" Puzzled, I respond, "Me personally, no...I'm at work. Why do you ask, Deanna?" She then informs me that I forgot to pack formula this morning. First I forgot her bottles on Friday, now this. DAMN IT ALL!

So I call Bryan and tell him to bust hump to the house, pick up formula and drop it off at Deanna's house.

So he does that and calls me to inform me "Um, by the way, have you been treating her cradle cap?" Sigh.... Yes, I have been. I've been putting baby oil on a cotton ball, rubbing it all over her head, letting it sit for roughly 10 minutes or so, and then trying to brush it out. Then she gets a bath with shampoo and a brushing again. Apparerntly, it's gotten much worse. Great. Just friggin' great. My day is going to be just splendid! So now I feel like an even worse Mom for not getting this cleared up. I've been so scatter brained lately with both of us working two jobs that I feel horrible.

So, after my long drawn out pity party....How do you clear up cradle cap? I've tried baby oil & olive oil and neither seems to be working. Is there a special shampoo? Where can I get it? I Googled it but I don't know if all the products I found actually work and where I can find them.

If craddle cap persists beyond 6-9 mos it can indicate exzema instead, that's what happened with my son. Now we put a prescription cream on it.

Do NOT use oil. Oil makes it worse. It is like putting a layer of plastic on their head. You would think it would moisten it, it actually dries out the skin. It does not allow the scalp to breathe.

Dandruff shampoo is your best bet. No oil or anything like that.

you can use the baby oil, or just regular baby shampoo, but take a soft bristled brush-or toothbrush-and rub with a little pressure. i dont knowif theres any specific products out there that really help. make sure after every bath that you brush babies head well to help prevent it from returning

My son hasn't had it, but I got something from Walmart just in case it popped up. I forgot what its called but it was in the baby section. Not sure if it was a shampoo/cream/oil. Good luck mama...and no, you're a good mama!! =)

I used one of those lice brushes with the really fine bristles and was able to brush all the flakes off and they never came back.

It doesn't seem to be bothering her but it looks disgusting. My mom said when my sis and I were babies she tried some expensive salon shampoo. But then again, she was a hair dresser for she got it for next to nothing.

Will adult dandruff shampoo be to harsh for her little scalp? She's 3 months going on 4 here shortly. (BTW, is it just me or does it seem like just yesterday that I was holding a positive EPT test?)

I put baby oil on my boys head when he was a baby. just bc my mom said it helps keep it from c.c.
He never had it..but his eyebrows got dry once in awhile so i put breast milk on it and went away...

Nope, my Goddaughter was 3.5 months and the Dr. recommended the original formula of Head and Shoulders, So just go grab a travel size and try that, hopefully it works for you. good Luck.
