2 month vaccination *update*

posted 20th Aug
hi everyone.. I posted the other day about how my daughter was to have her 2 month vaccinations done yesterday. It has been terrible!   She SCREAMED while she was having the shots done, but that was all of 30 seconds and then she was fine. She fell right asleep and slept for a little while, then when we took her to her pediatrician's appt later that afternoon she was so grumpy. We got her home around 6, she was still so-so, but then she started running a fever of 100 degrees and fussed the entire night. I put her to bed around 9:30 thinking since she was give out from the day that she would just sleep the entire night (she has been sleeping through the night otherwise) but NOPE! She cried pretty much all night long. What scared me though is that I would get her calmed down, then all of a sudden her whole body would jerk/jump and then she would scream at the top of her lungs for about 10 seconds, then it would calm to a whimper. She repeated that about 6 times in a row before it finally quit. I cried right along with her.   I gave her a few doses of baby tylenol through the night and it only worked for a little while. I just wonder what that could have been, I have never seen her do anything like that before and never heard her cry like that.

She never slept more than an hour last night, I'm sure she's give out today. As of this morning she was still running a fever but she seems to be a bit more relaxed, at least she was when I was getting ready for work this morning, and in the car and when dropped her off at the babysitter. She was sleeping and she looked peaceful.I'm about to call the babysitter shortly here to see how she's been doing.

I think maybe I'm feeling bad about this whole thing more than she is. It's justterrible to see your child in pain or uncomfortable, and they can't tell you what's wrong and you can't do anything about it.

With the jerking and near constant screaming, I would give her ped a ring just to see if they have anything to say :\ I know -some- crying is normal afterward, but if it goes on for hours, it can be a bad reaction, especially with the jerking o_o

I have a boy a little older than Cailin and although he did not spot a fever right after his 2-month shots (thank goodness!), I was afraid that he would, so I insisted on having the shots spaced out. I agreed to the oral + 1 shot (the combo) first. Then, followed up with the remaining 2 the following week. I am thinking that for his 4-month update, I would space it out even more, perhaps only 1 vaccination per week till he gets them all. That way, if he did get a reaction, I would know which vaccination caused it and can look out for that in the future. In addition, it just seems to be way too many shots in one day for their little bodies (although I cannot prove that). The doctor was not too happy about it and made me sign a waiver form. I was prepared for resistance on their part, but I just stood my ground. Afterall, it was not like as though he did not get vaccinated, it was just not all at the same time. The literature they gave me discussing the vaccines mentioned that if your child is sick, he/she would have to delay the shot anyway. You may want to consider spacing our Cailin's shots if travelling back and forth and the additional cost involved per visit (if any) are not too much of a problem.

I hope Cailin is feeling better!

My daughter is almost six months old, and has all her shots so far (two months and four months). After both sets of shots she ran a fever (the highest it got was about 101) and didn't feel good. She would whimper and cry pretty much the rest of the day, and the next day. And all she wanted to do was cuddle and be held. Both times I took her back to the doctor the next day (I'm a paranoid mommy, and take my kids in a lot). Her doctor and I have decided to space her shots out more now to see if that helps. She has her six month appointment on friday and will only recieve one shot and I will bring her in in one month for her next shot. Talk to your doctor and see what they think.

Maybe a stupid question - but did you give her any Tempra (or any other baby tylenol) before the shots? How about after? I know every baby is different (and it seems each set of shots is different too) but mine was fine after his 2 month shots. After his 4 months, he had a mild fever but when I gave him Tempra, he calmed down, cooled down, and was immediately better. But best thing to do is probably to call your pedi.

yeah I gave her the recommended dosage by her pediatrician of tylenol, but it didn't seem like it didn't any good for her. Neither during the night the night after her shots. Also last night still wasn't any good.   She was very fussy last night during the evening, and had trouble going and staying asleep last night. Her appetite has also gone downhill. She usually eats anywhere from 4-6 oz, she's only eating about an ounce or 2 at each feeding. She also was sleeping through the night before her shots, but she got up a couple times, mostly because she lost her binky, but when she woke up at 2:30 she was hungry. She was a little smiley this morning, and I dropped her off at the babysitter as normal and I have yet to check and call to see how she's doing. It's been almost 48 hours now that she's had her shots, when should I expect her to get back to normal? I miss my good baby girl.
