Sounds exactly like a distant cousin of mine. She did it ever since she could lift her head, just banged it on the side of her crib to sleep. They couldnt get her to stop. She has slight brain damage and is a little slow. She has had issues and it's sad. But she functions okay...definitely would try anything I could to get that friends baby to stop.

it always makes me sad when I hear of parents not wanting to know or look at it. With Autism, the earlier it is discovered, the better chance your child has at having a normal life!!! My son is a lot older, so it was discovered later. He isn't going to do so well. His IQ is very low and he will always struggle.
But they have come so far in early prevention now! Jen (Wallawallbingbang) has a son that is autistic too and he was diagnosed very young. You can barely tell there is anything wrong with him now.

My eight year old son has Asperger's and he seems to be a lot like Winduh describes her child to be...except that my son almost exclusively plays in the fantasy world. It has been very hard to deal with other people's opinion of my child and my parenting, but the best thing I did for him was to get him formally evaluated. I was so sickened by all the crap being given to me by schools, teachers, principals, and STRANGERS that it feels great to be able to say that I now know why my son acted/acts the way he did/does.

Quoting Winduh:“ no, seriously, Austin did that all the time. He hit his head hard on his crib or a wall. If you read ... [snip!] ... do is hitting their heads against things very hard. Headphones, audio books, mp3 player.....they have been our lifesaver!!!!”

Ohhh okay, Im sorry I guess I misunderstood you. I thought you meant it was normal for non-austistic kids to do this! Thats why I said that my daughter does it too sometimes but not nearly the same way.

Anyway, I dont know about the music thing. I will have to let them know about that if they dont already. It would definitely be worth a try. Thank you!

yeah no joke!!! We got an amazing psychiatrist who evulated Austin. He observed him and tested him for almost a year before he made a formal diagnosis. It was just wonderful to have someone listen and confirm our suspicions!
All the odd little quirks and off things, hearing someone say that is totally normal and here is the reason why..... I can't even express how amazing it was to hear that and what a huge relief!
Getting a good team of teachers, doctors, speech therapists, psychiatrists, etc, it has been really, really nice.
