Mirena...?

posted 19th Aug
I know I have some time before i have to think about what kind of birth control i want to go on, but im reading up on everything, and I want to go on Mirena. I'm not too good with pills because they make me really sick, and the depo not only made me gain like 10 pounds but it sent me to the ER because of something to do with the hormones screwing with my blood or whatever. so im wondering how is Mirena? Ive heard good things & Ive heard bad, like I heard somewhere that you cant feel it & that you just kinda forget that its even there and that it helps with the periods and such but then i heard that you gain a ton of weight on it [which i absolutely do not want] and you bleed heavily irregularly and that people cramp like crazy while having it in there, what is everyones experience on it?

i have it.... and so far I love it. But i have had irregular spotting ever since I got it and that's the one thing I hate. But since I breastfeed, my doctor said my periods will probably stop altogether until i stop breastfeeding. I haven't noticed any weight gain either... in the little booklet i got from my doctor it says that mirena doesn't cause you to gain weight like other BC methods.

Everyone is different, but I would recommend it since so far it has worked really well for me! You still have a little while to think about it though!

I really like Mirena. Well except for the crazy spotting, but I was told that it'll most likely go away and theres a chance i won't even get periods after the first year. I haven't experienced any weight gain yet. Plus its really cost effective.

I hated mine because the first three weeks I bled, and then two days later I got my first period after the insertion, and bled for 9 days. Lol.

But after that it's been all right.

My periods have been heavier since I had the baby, but it's been working out.

They say give it three months for your body to get used to it.

If you actually look into it mirena shouldn't cause you to gain weight. I myself have been looking into it and unlike the other bc methods it does not have any horomones that are released into your body. So it should not cause you to gain weight. AND the irregular bleeding and spotting is said to be normal and it can take like 3 months to adjust.

a great alternative to Mirena is Paraguard. Same concept, but NO hormones whatsoever. No hormones means no weight gain, mood swings, etc. And it's similar to mirena in size and shape, it also uses natural copper.

I've heard it's also less expensive than mirena, and if you don't have insurance you can order it through their website with consultation to your dr. and they can set up an affordable 12 month payment plan.

Mirena doesn't have any horomones.

Ok misread it lower horomones but it also says it shouldn't cause significant weight gain.
