Where the heck do you dowload a pic on GIMP?

AHHHHH I am sooo frustrated with this program. I can't even find where to dowload a pic to edit it?!?! I read the Gimp GURU thing and I still cannot find it. I am getting sooo irrititated. Please SOMEONE help!

Just go to FILE... then OPEN... and get your pic out of whatever file it's in on your computer..

Also on mine, when I'm in my files if I right click there is an option open with GIMP...
