Climbing on coffee table

posted 19th Aug
My 16 mos old son has learned to climb on our coffee table whenever I turn my back and will dance on it. I take him down and tell him no and he just laughs at me. Any ideas?

We took our coffee table out of our living room for quite a while- for that reason. We actually just put it back about 2 weeks ago and he hasn't bothered it. (he is 23 mths)

Squirt him with a water bottle like he's a cat?

Just kidding. It's annoying, but it'll just take time until he loses interest. Just take him down every time with a firm "no" and give him something else to play with.

I don't think the squirt bottle will work because that's what we do at the hairdresser's to keep him distracted he just opens his mouth and lets me squirt him.

My son did that too. I found that if I didnt freak or get onto him and just stood there in case he lost his balance or whatever that it wasnt quite as fun anymore, and he quickly lost interest. He still dances on the end tables though occasionally, but I've found that its kind of a losing battle so as long as I'm near by I let him. He loses interest in that pretty quickly also as long as I act like it doesnt bother me

My daughter does that too... I have tried to move everything away from it.. so she doesn't have anything to step on to get up there... .. I have a picture.. it isn't very good though, cause I took it with my phone. She also climbs onto the couch.. and the other day when her daddy walked in, he found her on top of the in table next to the couch eating my noodles and throwing my ice. The only thing we can do is watch her and tell her no.

He doesn't have anything to step on to get up there. It's like he digs his chin into the table while he's got one leg up there and then pulls with his arms. I don't understand why he started doing it there is nothing on the table. I think he just likes to feel tall.

Toddlers LOVE to climb. I forgot to add that I bought my son a slide for his room (or you could put it in the living room) so that he would have something to climb on. It eliminated the problem, until I moved the slide outside because he got too many toys lol.

My son does that too. My husband and I use to tell him no but that made him want to do it even more so know we just act as if nothing going and and he just gets off. But his new thing is pulling the computer chair out clmbing on top of it and getting on the computer desk   it seems like no matter what we do he still does it. But he climbs everything!! my sisters has a big pool in her back yard with a tall ladder he climbs up that and thats BAD cuz there a freakin pool on the other side!
