Schedule for 4 month old...

posted 19th Aug
What kind of schedule is/was your baby on at 4 months? I am having a hard time getting my son on any type of nap schedule and need some type of guideline. As far as evenings, Carson gets a bath around 7 pm and then is in bed anywhere between 7:30 and 8:30. Lately he has been REALLY fighting sleep for naps and bed time! I need some serious advice!! I have tried CIO and it just is too hard for me (not that it is wrong, it just isnt for us)!
Thanks!

My son is almost 3 months and I am going back to work next week (I work evening shift) so I have devoted this whole week to being on a routine like I am working. I have been letting him take a short morning nap in the living room in his bouncer seat and then putting him in his crib at 12:30 for a nap until 2 (which is when I would get ready for work). Then he usually takes a short evening nap while hanging out with my husband before his night bottle and bath (bath at 8, bottle at 8:30) The doc told me to make sure to put him to bed while he was awake so he learns how to get himself to sleep. I don't know what I am doing all the way yet, so I don't know if that helps at all? He also eats at 8:00am, 12:00pm, and around 4:00pm.

4 month olds have schedules? Man I wish I knew that!

Seriously, I wouldn't stress too much over it. I know that some people do have schedules that their kids work with, but I've always found it easier and less stressful for me to let them adjust to their own schedule and then figure out mine around theirs. Especially when they're so young, right when he gets a schedule down it'll change. My youngest is 7 1/2 months old and has just started to move from 3 naps a day to 2. Sometimes he still needs 3, though, it's an adjustment but it would be worse if I only let him take two when he needs extra sleep.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I am trying not to stress myself out about it...but the pedi freaked out when I told her that I rock him to sleep and that he isnt on any type of nap schedule! He is my first so I am just worried that I was doing something wrong! Stressing out about it isnt the way to go...again THANKS!

there's no right or wrong, written in stone way to do things. It's what you're comfortable with. And, if your pediatrician doesn't have similar beliefs you may find yourself butting heads constantly and it may be beneficial to look at other pedis. Just a thought...
